For me, a Christian is someone who, outside of simply believing in Christ, lives by His most important words - Love one another as I have loved you. This applies to everyone - even people whose actions you may disagree with. Where a lot of Christians sway from what Christ's teachings were all about is when they think they have a free pass to say things derogatory to people who are living a lifestyle they disagree with, or doing things they disagree with. True Christians treat others in a loving fashion, no matter their transgressions. Judging others is NOT part of being a Christian.

I would think that a Genuine Christian would be a person who has sincere respect for what Jesus was preaching. People have a tendency to stray from his teachings in an attempt to bypass the very big demands he made about personal behavior (Sermon on the Mount).

But he said that we have to change.... so in this sense, I would expect a real Christian to be seeking a way to change and become a better person. My guess is that Jesus did give his own disciples a way to change (worship in spirit) but since the teacher-disciple thing is rather secretive... I don't think we know exactly what he gave them.

But he did give them something, I feel confident about that.

A true Christian is a person who has put his or her faith and trust in the person of Jesus Christ and fact that He died on the cross as payment for sins and rose again on the third day to obtain victory over death and to give eternal life to all who believe in Him. John 1:12 tells us: “But as many as received Him, to them He gave the right to become children of God, to those who believe in His name.” A true Christian is indeed a child of God, a part of God’s true family, and one who has been given new life in Christ. The mark of a true Christian is love for others and obedience to God’s Word (1 John 2:4; 1 John 2:10).

Basically; it is a person, who has accepted the offer of the free gift of the GRACE of Christ, extended by God, the Father, through His UNconditional love. We did not either, deserve nor earn it [grace]. And upon accepting this undeserved or unmerited gift, Christians are given and are "sealed" by the Holy Spirit for the purpose of cultivating a spiritual relationship with God, the Father; whereby, he or she expresses the very out-going love of Jesus Christ to both, God and man. This is the hallmark of a converted a "genuine" Christian.

"Now by this we know that we know Him, if we keep His commandments. He who says, ‘I know Him,’ and does not keep His commandments, is a liar, and the truth is not in him. But whoever keeps His Word, truly the love of God is perfected in him. By this we know that we are in Him. He who says he abides in Him ought himself also to walk just as He walked" (John 2:3–6). The Living Bible paraphrases these last two sentences: "That is the way to know whether or not you are a Christian. Anyone who says he is a Christian should live as Christ did." And, as we know, Christ kept His Father’s commandments—including the fourth commandment—setting us an example. And as we know, Christ set us an example—by keeping the fourth commandment and all of His Father’s commandments (John 15:10).
But we should not expect "perfection" in our lives all at once! We have already learned that we are to "grow in grace and in knowledge." The true Christian life is one of overcoming and growing to become more like Jesus Christ—even in our innermost thoughts and desires.
But for the true Christian, the magnificent future makes all the trials, tests and "growing pains" more than worth it (cf. Romans 8:18)

It has nothing to do with what religion you are or what church you go to or what denomination you are. It has to do with whether God's Holy Spirit lives in you or not. To be a genuine Christian you have to have had a spiritual birth into the family of God, which is done by God and cannot be faked. If the Spirit is not there you are not one of His.

A person who lives their life according to their faith, instead of telling other people how to live according to the Christian faith. If they left the hypocracy behind they might get someone to listen. ^_^

i think a genuine Christian i a Christian who believes in what he says and tries his/her best to be a good person and not to judge or tell people what they are doing is wrong. Unfortunately they are drowned out by all those noisy Christians who advocate I.D. and who believe it is there mission to preach to EVERYONE including people who don't want to listen.
