I was at my previous company for 5 years and was an excellent employee. I left that position for another position but resigned because the job description was not inline withe duties after 6 months. How can I explain this to a potential employee? Should I even place this job on my resume at all?

in your cover letter, say what you just did. you left it because you felt the job discription had been misleading and your duties were not what you had expected. then emphasize the experience you do have.

I had a similar situation with a long-term job followed by a 7 month job. On my resume, I included a few new skills I had gained during the short-term position. In my cover letter, I included a brief statement as to why I was looking for a new job. I didn't have any trouble getting interviews and now I have a job I like much better. Keep everything you say positive. Employers know that sometimes jobs just don't work out. Plus, you have a 5-year job so it's not like you're a job-hopper. Good luck!

So you want to givethe impression you aren't flexible? That;s what you'll do if you go into the " the description was not in line with the duties", and all that

Just tell him the job wasn't working out as you hoped it would. he may let it go at that. If he pursues it, explain, you didn';t feel you rwere heasding in the right direction.

This does happen, beieve me.
Yes, you must put in on your resume.

The best thing to do is to be honest. if you decide not to include this on your resume then be prepared to have an explanation as to what you did for the 6 months that you were not working.
