My mother in law bought us tickets to the Lion King . I have two boys and a husband that would rather go hunting, dirt biking , bowling or almost anything else than go. What should i say ?

Thank you and just go. It would not hurt to go, they are a lot more fun than you think.

In this case your husband should talk to his mother. FRANKLY, it is a learning experience for your children. You and your husband maybe ought to discuss that it would be good for the kids to get a little culture mixed in with the hunting and dirt biking. I think you all might be able to spare a few hours for that and appreciate the very generous thing that your mother-in-law did. Exposing children to something cultural could change their lives, who knows?

That's a really nice/thoughtful gift.. Why not take a trip out of the usual comfort zone and try something new and different make a special night of it and enjoy it.. Who knows it might be something that everyone can enjoy and have a nice memory of instead of doing the same ol' same ol'.. Children as well as adults learn from being exposed to different things.. Art, music and literature are very, very enriching activities for adults/children.. They may like more than you think... Don't forget to day "Thank you"....

The Lion King is a wonderful show, and I'm sure that they would appreciate one evening out with you experiencing something new. Just because someone likes huntiing and dirt biking does not mean they won't like seeing the Lion King, too.

Take 'em to the show!

Use the tickets, it will not kill any of you to use your MIL thoughtfull gift. If your boys won't go[I'm counting the adult one], find someone else's family that will, either go with them yourself, or sell them the tickets at face value or below, and give the MIL all of her money back. And when you do, tell MIL the truth. MIL, sorry, but the boys would not go, I sold the tickets, here is the money, thanks, great gift, but your son and his your grandsons are ingrates.
It might be your MIl's attempt to give you all some culture. Be nice to her. She meant well. I'm sure.

Thank her for the generous gift, most appropriately with a thank-you note. Then, if you dare, give the tickets to someone you think would enjoy them. My guess, though, is that your mother-in-law is trying to help your family learn to enjoy a variety of activities by expanding your horizons a bit. You might want to consider taking them; they might really enjoy it. And you are quite likely to hear questions later, like, "How did you like the show?" and so forth. Sometimes in life you have to compromise by doing things you don't want to do in order to make someone else happy. So you might want to ask yourself is it more important to make a stand, possibly alienating your mother-in-law, or whether you'd just rather go to the show.

Politely turn them down and explain to her that she needs to get to know her grandchildren better as they aren't interested in the Lion King movie

Go to the show, and take them with you. One evening with you should be worth it to them, and they might just enjoy it and get some culture. Who wouldn't like The Lion King?

Sounds like she is out of touch with what is going on, and seeking some attention from you all.

Say "Thank you." Then find a family that would love to see the show.
