I am getting married this approaching June. I have already booked a site for the reception too. What I am wondering is when should I send out "SAVE THE DATE" cards, magnets,or emails to the guests. When is the right time? I have looked on countdown lists and they all say different times! So I'm Confused.

THANKS!!

I have never heard of "save the date". Invitations are sent out 6 weeks before the wedding. If it is falling on a holiday w/e then I would let out of towners know now but not in a formal way. Also if they are friends and family the word will soon spread around that you have set the date.

Send them out about 10-12 months in advance. If you have lots of people coming in from out of town they will need time to arrange the vacation from work and buy airline tickets. Giving them plenty of notice lets them know that they need to start thinking about these things. Plus it's a nice way to let people like extended relatives know you are engaged and will be inviting them to the wedding. With everyone having crazy schedules you may want to plan your wedding shower about 4 months early. This way people who receive a shower invite know they will be invited to the wedding.

Save-the-date cards are business correspondence. And seem completely inappropriate for a wedding. Send out your regular wedding invitations six weeks prior to the date. That's all you need.

I would say around February, because June is a busy month! You have high school graduations, summer starting up for people to take off for vacation, kids out of school, busy busy time.
I dont think there is a right or wrong answer, its not going to matter if you send them out too early. I think the earlier the better! :)

I would do Feburary then for people who need to book hotel, and plan parties can do that, also some people need to book a plane if they do can get abetter date when having an early flight. Good luck. Also a magnet in a card would be so cute and cleaver and they would be sure not to forget it.

Now.

The sooner you get it out, the sooner it will be on everyone's fridge, the sooner people can look to scheduling themselves off work if needed, the sooner people can save up to be able to attend the wedding.

:)

If people are going to be traveling to your wedding, they'll appreciate being informed as soon as possible. I'd say send them out as soon as you have a solid, confirmed date.

That is really not necessary. I never did this. Close friends and family were just called and told that we were getting married and they wrote it down. Save yourself the money. This is just something that companies and wedding planners came up with to suck more money out of unsuspecting brides.

"Save the dates"? Hmm. I can't say I've heard that
before. Maybe it's to insure that your marriage will
go well, so that you won't wind up feeling in the pits.
Yeah. That must be it!
