She's a pit and we ran out of Dog Chow for her. I have some leftover meat in the freezer. Is it okay to give to to her raw, or should I cook it?

BTW, how should I cook it?

Seeing as she's not used to eating raw meat and as this is an emergency I would cook it for her until it is browned and mix it with some dog biscuits. If you don't have any of those toast some wholemeal bread to mix in with it.
Expect her to have a runny motion or two tomorrow/during the night and stock up on her regular food ASAP

Feeding raw meat is fine, but you must supplement it with other ingredients. You can't feed only raw meat. Cooking it is fine too. And if you're just doing it to hold you over until you get dog food, it's no big deal to do it once or twice.

But do some research about raw diets if you're really interested in this feeding method. And it IS a legitimate, healthy way to feed your dog. It will NOT make your dog want to kill and eat other animals or humans. Some like raw because they feel it's the most healthy and natural way to feed your dog. Others think it's too messy, inconvenient and possibly dangerous due to bacteria.

Dogs are born with enzymes that are able to process and digest raw meat. The problem is that we don't give them raw meat so those special enzymes going into hiding because they aren't used. So to feed a dog raw meat you have to first get those enzymes out from hiding, which is a at least two week process. You can not take a dog who has never eaten raw meat before in its life and give it raw meat, it will get sick! Plus you have to make sure if you feed your dog raw meat that it comes from a place you trust, don't want any parasites or anything in your dog's food. I would just cook up the meat, anyway you think your dog would like.
Oh and by the way...raw meat DOES NOT make your dog want to attack and eat humans and other animals. People that say that are VERY MUCH mistaken!

It is ok for dogs to eat raw meat do you see dogs cooking on a grill in the wild? Cuz I don’t! Since your dog is not used to raw meat you have to feed it to him slowly. people are so weird they tell you dogs cant have raw meat they are so dumb in fact dogs are supposed to be eating chicken, beef, rice, carrots, potatoes(cooked) etc. as there dog food it is a lot healthier than dog food at the stores the only reason dogs are eating that crap is because its cheaper for us! And just cook the meat how you normally cook it just don’t add any seasonings (of course) good luck with your doggy!

By nature the dog is a carnivorous predator. A dog that chases things (with or without killing them) is just being true to what it is: a dog. Feeding a dog meat is not going to turn a dog into some vicious animal that will attack every living thing that moves.

People fail to understand that dogs are carnivorous predators. They are supposed to "have a taste for meat." They are supposed to go out and hunt their own food. Dogs NEED MEAT in their food; they are carnivores!! With the domestication of livestock and introduction of smaller pets, hunting and killing on their own became undesirable. People bred and selected dogs that could coexist peacefully with such animals but still retained enough prey drive to do things like retrieve and herd. This is why dogs retrieve balls and chase toys and animals that move quickly. It is interesting to note that herding breeds have coexisted peacefully with the animals they herded without savaging or killing them, even while these dogs were fed raw meat and bones from the very same kinds of animals they were guarding.

The dog is, by nature, a predator, and will chase other animals because it is hard-wired to do so

Raw meat is not dangerous to dogs if it is properly fed to them. Still, I wouldn't advise changing to a raw diet because you ran out of dog food. Changes back and forth to different foods can be very hard on digestive systems in dogs and Pit Bulls often tend to be easily upset when change is involved. Also, I don't recommend anyone go into raw feeding without doing it according to people who are experts at it. Balance is important in any diet. Your dog needs balance and throwing something for her to eat from your freezer because you ran out of food is not responsible care for your dog.
"Leftover meat"? What kind? Raw, cooked, spices or additives? what kind of bones if any? what else will you be feeding her!
Please talk to your Vet about diet changes that are sudden. I guess you can't do that if you have run out of food...

A dog is still an animal. If it ran away and had to survive in an outdoor market where raw meat was sold and leftover meat was tossed in the garbage, trust me, your dog would be able to survive on it. Just do whatever it is you want to do. If you just want to thaw it out and feed it to him, do it. if you are feeling a little more ambitious then cook it. It won't matter to your dog. I have fed raw meat to my dog for years (not as his main food suppliment) and he is doing just as well as the day I got him.

Sheesh, people panic so much these days. And by the way, if you had to do it to survive, you could it raw meat. it's just not as palatable to us as cooked meat and sounds gross because we have the convenience of cooking our food these days.

People are such wusses....

Feeding a raw meat will not give a thirst for blood, make it more agressive etc. etc. Dogs will not get worms from raw meat, dogs are designed to handle the bacteria load. You can switch a dog cold turkey from kibble to raw. Expect a "detox" period while your dog rids it body of all the crap from kibble. Especially a kibble such as dog chow.

Here are the common myths associated with raw feeding.

**Wow that's a new one. Heartworm is transmitted through mosquito bites. Your dog will NOT get heartworm from eating raw meat.

well no raw meat whatsoever . just put the meat in a cooking pot and cook it until it's done and then just give it to the dog if you heave any veggies cook them too until soft and mix everything together and give it to the dog , but of course the food has to be cold before given to the dog .
