I have recenly moved out of the house, and now my little brother is there alone(with my parents of course..) and I am worried about him. He's been writing some pretty grusome things.. and I think he is depressed. I keep telling my parents to get him help, but they won't listen to me. They think it is just a phase.. But he is cutting himself now. How do I talk to him.. or talk to my parents so they will listen to me? Btw, he is 14.

Thank you all for your help, but I also wanted to add a few things. My mother was the one who told me about the cutting. I know it's not normal. I am also going there this weekend and I am going to try to talk to him about it, but I don't want him to be embaressed or hurt. Any Ideas of how I should break it to him that I know?

well, someone is doing something to him..and your parents lack of concern, is puzzling...I don't think it is a 'phase' and even you have the good sense to see that...Please, be extremely honest, frank, and open with him and let him have it..because if you don't, no one will. It might manifest itself into something really horrible,..and you might just be saving your little bro from suicide, or worse...take care and God Bless

Sounds like the 2 of you have been abused over the years.Maybe talk to a social worker and see if you can get your brother some help.Maybe he can come and stay with you,if you have a stable place for him to live.Cutting himself is not good.Something is going wrong in that house.

i would take this very seriously, tell them that u will phone child protection if they do not get him some help if all your reasoning and pleading has not worked.sadly they seem to be in denial of the seriousness of self mutilation and depression.this "phase" could be his last if something is not done hes crying out for help.try yourself to organise some kind of counselling for him.i wish u the best.

Tell them about the cutting first. Then tell them he seems depressed and he needs to see a doctor. Most Adolecents withdraw into themselves while growing up but despite wat u see cutting is not normal. I'm going thru it and nobody wanted to help me. I almost killed myself, plz don't let that happen to ur bro. Get him help make sure he knows he isn't alone

The first thing I would mention to them is the cutting.

If something serious did happen I wonder how your parents would feel. Better to be safe than sorry.

Can you talk to another family member who may have influence with your parents? Or maybe talk to his teacher - he/she could recommend some options.
