The name of Jericho means Moon City. The culture of these people followed the Moon God. The moon rules over the night (see Genesis 1) Satan rules over darkness. These two are one and the same.
The 7 days of circling and on the 7th day circling 7 times are a precursor to the seals, trumpets, and vials in the book of Revelation. (Question - This was seven consecutive days. Was God's work skipped because of the sabbatical law?)
Jericho and it's walls were the strong point that the people of God, all twelve tribes, could not overcome on their own power.
This also is akin to the institutions/strongholds that Christians today can not overcome without the assistance of God.
This is God doing for us what we cannot do ourselves.
God will not do for us what we can do for ourselves. God Almighty even tells us what to do and how to do it.

When the Holy Spirit comes into a Christian's life, we have a victory that we could never have. It is only by God's power and might so that we know that it was God and God alone responsable for this victory. For Christians it could be anything, but for me it was deliverence from drugs, alcohol, depression, lonelyness, and cigarettes, all in one night! It was awesome! It was as if I never did these things! This happened to me 3 days after I recieved the Baptism of the Holy Ghost and I began to speak in other tongues. For others, it might be the Water Baptism, for others, it might be at the moment they repented and received Jesus as their Savior, and for some others, it might happen during a firery trial. After this great victory, the other victories are like in the Bible. They might be slow and painful. But we must go through them to grow and learn to trust God and His Word.

It isn't symbolism. Jericho was destroyed because the people obeyed Him. God was again glorified when all outside appearances it looked like Jericho could not be conquered. God is greater than all the armies in the world. His people can defeat large numbers that are against them when they put their faith in God. Much like the large battles in our own lives that seem like there is not way to win them, then we give it over to Him, and usually our battles are won in ways we never expected!

Trusting in and obeying God. Also Jericho and its spoils were to be given to God. So this is another show of the tithe. As they were able to keep the spoils of the cites after Jericho. But Jericho was to be set aside.

God's plan works, if you work it.
We all have giant enemies we face every day. For some it is work, some it is sickness and disease, some it is your mother in law.
If we practice the principles God has given us through His son Jesus.
Loving one another, forgiving one another, etc. you get the point. The walls in our lives come crashing down and we will be over comers over every enemy that comes against us.
God certainly doesn't want us going around hurting anyone as one had suggested.
It represent victory over battles in our lives.

It isn't a Christian story. It's in what Christians call the Old Testament.
