My 13th birthday is coming up and I sort of want a special present as it's quite a special birthday. I've always wanted a dog yet for 3 days a week there's noone at home for school hours so that's not an option no matter how much I want it. My parents used to have 5 cats, 3 were still alive when I was born. Last year the last one died at 17. It was really sad. I know the whole family are missing having a cat in the house, the way they can sense if you're sad or happy and generally keep you company. Our next door neighbour has just died and the sons asked whether we'd like to have the cat. Everyone leapt at the idea but then the sons changed their minds. We have 11 pets 4fish, 3rabbits, 2chickens, 1hamster, 1guineapig. I used to look after them the most but have slipped due to school work but am determined to keep going again. I don't just want it as something to play with that's cute but as a companion. The only really possibly a kitten is because it needs to be ok with rabbits.

Our rabbits run freely around the garden and the next door neighbour's cat is very good friends with them. I'd be willing to clean out a litter tray, it'll sleep in my attic bedroom which I'm soon getting. I've never had my own room and though I'm excited I get really scared when my sister's out at a sleepover and I'm on a room by myself. I just feel like perhaps having a cat with me wouldn't make me feel so scared. I know it's really stupid but... I'm going to prove that I can look after it, I'm getting a job when I'm 13 to do a paper round. So I can try to help with the pet's bill with injections and stuff. Or do you think if they agree then 2 cats? To keep each other company. I don't know, I just want a friend to stop me getting nightmares if I get scared in the attic. Do you think it's wise?

Thanx for all the people who've answered so far. I asked Mum and she says that because the next door neighbour's cat is being so friendly we don't want to scare him off. Also she says that she's been enjoying the fact that she cat walk around in the dark in the morning without having to worry about stepping on a dead mouse or bird. Looks like the answers no :( I see her points but it would be nice seeing as instead of asking for a dog which I know is unreasonable just a little kitty cat. Then I even suggested paying for insurance and everything by getting a Saturday job and paying for all the equipment myself. Then all she'd need to do is say yes. My annoying little sister's saying 'I want one too' Grr, looks like no :(

i agree with the first person. get a poor little kitten from the shelter. you seem old enough and see very responsible. and if you get a kitten from the shelter you know that you have saved many cat's lives. the kittens at the shelter are usually very scared so when you go there they might seem mean but they really are just scared. after two days the kitten will love you cause they know you mean no harm and it is enjoying the company. good luck

Well done, try to rescue one or two kittens from a shelter! They will be grateful for ... at least 2 months! But they will love you for ever!
