To pay for the pastor's Mercedes of course. It's funny how you never see a preacher or pastor driving a run down car......

The "donations" have nothing to do with the free gift. Ephesians 2:8-9 teach that no good works can gain us our salvation. God is not in heaven with some cosmic measuring scale, weighing our good actions versus our bad actions. God cannot be appeased by our attempts to "be good." Only a life surrendured to Christ will lead to heaven.
You're trying to paint a picture of ministers as greedy beggars that scare people into giving them money. While I'm sure people like that exist, that is not Christianity and should not be presented as such.

If you're referring to church collections, we are commanded to "lay by in store" of what we have "prospered", on the first day of the week. Paul I believe is the one who said, "that there be no gatherings when I come" - he was an evangelist and apostle, and this is teaching that we as a congregation are to combine our efforts and income to support the work of the church - evangelists' work - going out into the world to spread the gospel. On another level, the purpose of "donating" to the church is to help the needy and poor. There are examples in the New Testament of the early church combining not only money but physical possessions to help the poor.
If you are asking why do we say this is necessary, and why then does it say salvation is a free gift, this is why: While our own works do not get us into heaven, (God set it up that way so that no one would become proud or conceited from having done many good works, we're to do them only for God and the good of our fellow man), we are still expected to obey God's commandments. If God sees us as disobedient to His will, it is a sin, and we will be written out of the book of life. Therefore just as we are to not murder, steal, etc, we also must look after the needs of others.

If getting into heaven is a free gift, why are there requirements?
If there are minimal requirements (e.g. belief that Jesus is lord and savior, repentance of alleged sins, etc.) this is no free gift. It is an offer.
To represent it as a free gift is misadvertising, much like a cheap used car salesman trying the bait and switch on unsuspecting targets.

Heaven is not a free gift as taught to you by false teachers in the modern day churches and beggers on the street [ same difference ]
HEY! ministers of baal...Read Psa. 110:1-7 it is by works ...
TO THE BEGGING MINISTERS IN THE CHURCH
REVELATION 20
12 And I saw the dead, small and great, stand before God; and the books were opened: and another book was opened, which is the book of life: and the dead were judged out of those things which were written in the books, according to their WORKS.
13 And the sea gave up the dead which were in it; and death and hell delivered up the dead which were in them: and they were judged every man according to their WORKS.
and many more writings on by our deed, labor and our works.
TO THE BEGGERS ON THE STREET:
1 THESS 4:11 And that ye study to be quiet, and to do your own business, and to WORK with your own hands,
[ as we commanded you; ] THESE BEGGERS WON'T QUIT.
THESE STREET BEGGERS MAY AS WELL GO HOME.
2 THESS. 3:10 For even when we were with you, this we commanded you, that if any would not WORK, neither should he eat.
THESE STREET BEGGERS, EVEN HEARD JESUS SAY IT
12 Now them that are such we command and exhort by our Lord Jesus Christ, that with quietness they WORK, and eat their own bread.
Now the ministring church beggers are sending the people to judgment. telling the people .... it is free .... for a fee.
The street beggers are using the name Jesus,
because he said it is more blessed then to recieve...
however you do not give to people that are able to work,
or give to people when they should be getting professional help.
then your enabling... and you the giver will be judged..
TO BOTH BEGGERS,, GET A JOB OR GET HELP TO.

No one faith is true! The truth was given to various people over the millenniums and filtered through their culture and communicated in a way they could understand. "Each seeker must find their own path"
I'm still working on it. Organized religions are pyramid scams only for the people on top who live off the rank and file.

Christians use donations to help people. If they do anything else with the donations or tithes, then they are not doing God's will. We are to help the fatherless, widows and strangers.

They need money to maintain churches. But those who ask for money in exchange for miracles, blessings, and the ticket to heaven are all headed to hell. Heads up, Benny Hinh.
