He loves us and wants us to love him back. He doesn't make us love him and that is why he has given us free will. We CHOOSE whether or not we will be damned. God made the rules - he is God and can do whatever he wants. Loving God and following his commandments are not such a hard thing to do. Everything that Christ stood for was good, moral and if everyone adhered to Christ's teachings this world would be a better place. Love God w/ your whole being and love your neighbor as yourself. I can live with that. Why not love God? He gave you your being and all your blessings, you should be grateful for that instead of calling him power hungry. His power is why you exist.

Who said that God is power-hungry?
That would mean that he is not divine but more human.
That would also mean that he has competitors and superiors, because what would he do with more power; can there even be more power, if God is all?
The image we have of God is an image created and coloured by men. All Holy Books were written by men, with more or less inspired passages, and those men have entered their own view of life also. So we should look for the parts that display the original divine intentions (that's the love and care thing in Christianity) and allow more leniency for different beliefs and lifestyles.

How could someone Who is infinitely powerful, someone who created the entire universe from nothing by an act of His will, be "power hungry"? Someone can only hunger for that which they don't already possess.

God doesn't damn anyone. People damn themselves. If God offers each person the opportunity and the means to live in complete happiness and fullment eternally, but some people reject His offer and tell God "I would rather live without you in my life", thereby sentencing themselves to an existence apart from God, exactly how is that God's fault??

You seem to believe that you are your own god, so, think about this. If you had all power and had created man who turned away from you and became sinful would you come to earth as a human being to pay for the sin of ungodly man?

Even those who judge their creator?

Right. There is only one God, and he deserves worship and praise. Those who do not want to acknowledge him as God are in essence choosing at this moment to be separated from him for eternity.

Its the people who fabricated the idea of god who were power hungry. Its the "live this way and abide by these rules, and you will have eternal life" attitude. Obviously, an all-knowing, all loving, omniscient, omnipresent, creator of the universe and all life on earth creating god, wouldn't care about your sex life. That seems pretty miniscule.

Confusing isn't it? The pap and prattle you will get to answer this will all be unsatisfatory.

The "god" image created by the jews and adopted by the christians has many roles and responcibilities tied up to it and associated with it. Man has tried to answer all questions with "It's God's Will!".

I bet God is pissed.

Live as good a life as you can, help others when you can not just when it is convienient, try not to harm anyone, leave a small impact on the earth, and laugh often.
This will please God.

I'd agree that this behavior sounds like a "petulant child", but the way I see it, the childishness isn't on God's part...WE are the ones that are acting like petulant children about this issue. Remarkably similar to the way my own six year old behaves. I tell him to do something and I tell him what will happen if he doesn't obey...he chooses to disobey anyway and when the promised consequence happens, he starts whining that "it's not fair" or "you don't love me".

Our great, great, great (to the xx power) grandparents chose to live separated from God...they chose death over obedience. Come on, think about it, God gave them only one rule and they broke it. He told them that if they broke that rule, they would die...and he wasn't lying. We are a product of their decision to live with the reality of death and separation from God.

God isn't "power hungry", he just wants his children to come home. Not at all unlike a person whose child decide to cut him or her out of their lives...is that person to blame because his or her grandchildren (or great grandchildren) don't know him or her? God wants to know all of us, but our ancestors (back to Adam and Eve) denied us that opportunity by turning their back on God and running away from his home.

Is belief really such a big price to pay? God doesn't want any of us to die, he loves us so much that the entire bible is filled with stories about how far he is willing to go just to have us accept his offer to come back home. He wants all of us to share in the inheritance he intended for Adam and Eve despite our disobedience...that's beyond loving...few human parents/grandparents can claim such love.

Only a spoiled selfish child would whine about a parent (or grandparent) who was willing to forgive everything and restore the child's inheritance if the child would just accept the gift!

If there is a god, atheism must seem to him as less of an insult then religion.

gosh...you're a negative person.
do you always look at and emphasize the bad in everything?!

He's not power hungry...He already has all the power. He doesn't damn you, He lets you make the choice what you want to do when you leave this earth. Don't blame my loving God for your foolish decisions...make them count!

blessings.

..god will never become our servant..and God will never be satan's servant....
God loves us ..till a limit....if we are against him..or do things against His will and love for people..he will let us troubled by satan with ilnesses etc..and even in hell if we don't repent...you maybe don't know..that people who are against God..do evil things to those who believe in God..very evil things...in comunism..the word God..has never been pronounced at school..except literature..when the writer wrote something about God..priests and monks got to jail ..and we were obliged to reproduce at our biology class that we have evolved from monkey and that we are species..as the manual said..
