common situation: big display on the side of the road that shows your speed. do they have cameras installed ? and if yes , is it enough to give someone a ticekt even if that person wasn't spotted and pulled over right away? How does it work in New England (especially in Maine , Mass. or NH)? Any points on a license?

It is enough probable cause when they use cameras at red lights.

Most of those setups are simply to make you aware of your speed, but they could use cameras and mail tickets.

If there are cameras installed then the answer is yes, but to my knowledge in Florida, cameras are not installed in the radar signs. In the UK, there are cameras all over the place and tickets asre distributed based on the cameras' capture of the speed.

Those type of signs are normally used to show you your speed in construction areas. They do not contain cameras. I like them for checking my speedometer. An area past the sign may have a law enforcement officer with radar and since they had a "speed check" for you to look at, it would be hard to claim you didn't know your speed.

I live in CA and they do it here all the time and it's a $300 fine. They have red light cameras, and if they flash you they'll clock your speed also, and if you're speeding you get a ticket for that too... I have heard that you can fight them if they don't post signs saying that your speed is being checked by radar.

Not many have cameras in them but yes it is enough to mail you a ticket. Wouldn't be a problem if you didn't speed. Just a thought.

Most of those don't do anything but warn you of your speed as you approach the sign. Some speed traps can and do record speeds and take pictures but they can be disputed and aren't used much except in very high traffic areas or in areas with a known problem. Become aware of those areas and slow down.
