it doesn't work that easy. You have to plan ahead.
what besides the waffles?? any eggs or meat what for coffee?? what kind of topping on the waffles fresh fruit or jam??
If your folks have a "swirly waffle maker" There must be an instruction book some where. it usually includes recipes
strawberries peaches apples pineapple a side of cantaloupe or melon a mix of all... some how you can get a bottle of champagne just put it in your mom's grocery cart. Just say it is a surprise...
and even keep it in the fridge until your surprise
make a menu and a list of stuff you need..... maybe you add a flower or two ....
I wish you the very best !!!

If you have Bisquick in the house, that makes great waffles. We use it all the time, we have to make them in bulk for 2 teen boys!
Otherwise, you absolutely don't need buttermilk to make them from scratch. Here's a good recipe, they are delicious with fresh fruit and whipped cream if you have it, or also with butter and syrup:
BELGIAN WAFFLES (this will also work in a regular waffle iron)
1 1/4 c. sifted cake flour
2 tsp. baking powder
1/4 c. sugar
pinch of salt
4 egg yolks
1 1/2 c. milk
1 tsp. vanilla extract
1/2 c. melted butter
4 egg whites
Preheat a waffle iron. Sift together the flour, baking powder, 1/4 c. sugar, and salt onto a piece of waxed paper. Beat the egg yolks lightly and add the milk, vanilla and melted butter. Drop in the dry ingredients and stir just enough to combine. In a separate, clean bowl, beat the egg whites until they are stiff but not dry and fold them into the batter gently. Bake in a waffle iron at medium heat until the steam stops escaping.

Basic Waffle Recipe courtesy Alton Brown, 2005
Show: Good Eats
Episode: The Waffle Truth
4 3/4 ounces all-purpose flour, approximately 1 cup
4 3/4 ounces whole-wheat flour, approximately 1 cup
1/2 teaspoon baking soda
1 teaspoon baking powder
1 teaspoon salt
3 tablespoons sugar
3 whole eggs, beaten
2 ounces unsalted butter, melted
16 ounces buttermilk, room temperature
Vegetable spray, for waffle iron
Preheat waffle iron according to manufacturer's directions.
In a medium bowl whisk together the flours, soda, baking powder, salt, and sugar. In another bowl beat together eggs and melted butter, and then add the buttermilk. Add the wet ingredients to the dry and stir until combined. Allow to rest for 5 minutes.
Ladle the recommended amount of waffle batter onto the iron according to the manufacturer's recommendations. Close iron top and cook until the waffle is golden on both sides and is easily removed from iron. Serve immediately or keep warm in a 200 degree F oven until ready to serve.

This may not help now, but in future-you can substitute plain milk, half-n-half, or milk with one tsp. lemon juice/cup for buttermilk.
