That is hard to answer not knowing how old you are, but the song has sexual connotations, so I can see why your father is being protective.
Just apologize for singing it, tell him you didn't really know what it meant. And make sure you don't sing songs like this around your father anymore.

No it's not fair though that song... eh... i could see how it'd piss him off... it kinda sucks to be honest. I mean everybody has their preferances, but if his are like mine that song probably annoys him. Did you sing it like in his face after he asked you to stop? If so that's why he's trying to ground you, for doing something after he said stop... Or maybe he has a complex about the streets? "You did NOT come from the streets!" Some parents just take that **** too literal... It's just a song to you and me, to him he's analyzing it. Fair? no.

your Dad is grounding you because you did not stop when he told you to not because you were singing the song Respect your Father and Obey him and you would not be grounded To many Kids get away with small things which end up big things Honor your mother and Father They are your parents And should be honored and Obeyed. God Be with you and your Family

I tried to listen to the song, but I had trouble understanding the lyrics. All I have to say is that your Father has an absolute right to restrict the music or anything else that he finds to be offensive. The first amendment does not refer to child/parent relationships.

my guess is he was trying to concentrate on his playstation control and you were distracting him.
As a parent of an 18 and 7 yr old I can say that I am highly sensitive to noise when I'm trying to concentrate on something. lol. And have probably in my frustration made ridiculous grounding threats myself. Just take him his favorite bowl of ice cream or something, tell him your sorry for distracting and him and give him a big hug. ;) Works like a charm.

If dad says stop then stop or leave the room and sing.
People have a right to quite too. If they were playing there first then they had the room. No one likes background noise sign outside or in your room. Respect other peoples right to not hear you.

hard to judge what happen by what yo said. he did ask you to stop, you disobeyed him. If he had a reason to ask you to stop you did it all to yourself. If he just did not like the song than he is an idiot. Tough call with the opinion from one side only. I am sure your dad would like to add to this debate. Good song by the way

Hmmmmm...
"You could 'cause you can so you do"

I guess I can understand why dear old Dad went ballistic. He doesn't want his little girl to think she can hop into bed with anyone who tickles her fancy.

I know you think it is unfair because it is just a song. But your Dad is closer to my generation, he can remember how songs shaped a generation. Try to see things from his point of view. He is not being mean, he is trying to protect you. Good Dad's do that, and sometimes they come off looking like tyrants because they don't want you to repeat mistakes of their past.

Oh my gosh, you're 14, a freshman in high school right? Your dad should not overreact on what you sing unless there is really bad words in it.
