This morning someone threw a puppy in a bag over my fence :(
The puppy is very small, has fur, looks to me as he has only 2 weeks or so... He has fleas. I don't know what to do, i want to keep him. But what do i feed the puppy at that age? he still needs his mother i think. Do i need to take him to the vet? What type of injections does he need? How do i take care of him? Where should he sleep and how many times a day do i feed him and with what? He can walk, but stumbles, it looks like he only learned to do it not long ago because hes very young. I don't know what breed he is, maybe mixed.

Thanks so much for the help! :)

take him to the vets, if he is only 2 weeks old he will need a lot of care, that you cant give him alone. call the cops to, that's dog abuse, throwing him and putting him in a bag is abuse. the vet will be able to suggest what to do.
EDIT: until you get him to the vets, keep him warm with blankets, get him to the vets ASAP!!

Take him to the vet for eveluation, the vet can give you something for the fleas, most products at the store are for older pups. Call Animal Control and tell them what happened, they will let you keep the pup if you choose to and can show you will take care of him, with some luck they might find the person who did that.

If the puppy is walking he is older than 2 weeks, possibly 3 -4 weeks, you can get a milk replacement and bottles to feed at your local pet store, also get some canned puppy food and try to feed a little. As far as shots and all the other needs work with your vet.

Good luck

I agree with all the other people who have written that you should take the pup to a Vet - asap. Explain to the Vet the situation and I am sure that they will even give you a cut rate price to help you out. And at the very least your SPCA should be notified so that an Inspector can do an investigation on the matter. Imagine if someone could do this to a pup - what have they done to the mother and the other pups??.
If that pup is only a couple of weeks old- he will need around the clock care and the right type of nutrition is very important, as he will need supplements to replace what he should have been getting from his mothers' milk.

Call up your vet, they can tell you exactly what he needs, they may even have you bring in the puppy. I don't know what you can do about the fleas at that age though, there aren't commercial products safe enough for dogs that young. I know theyneed to eat every hours, and you can buy pet bottles, and mother replacement milk to feed him. He should sleep in a small, warm place, a cardboard box with a blankets should be fine. He needs to be fed even at night to, every 2 hours, no matter what. Like I said, give the vet a call, and tell them exactly what happened, poor puppy. I'm glad you want to be responsible and care for him, your vet can probably do something about those fleas, to.

Oh, poor puppy!

Do take him to the vet for a checkup. He will need to be fed puppy formula in a bottle, probably every few hours. You might need to gently wipe his bottom with warm, damp cotton to get him to eliminate - do this after each feeding. Use a fine-toothed flea comb on him. Put an old, soft towel in a box or basket for a bed. Keep him warm, and near you. He will need puppy shots when he's 8 weeks old or so. Your vet can give you more details about the care he needs.

Thanks for taking him in!

Take him to the vet. Fleas on a puppy this young can literally suck him dry and cause anemia. Flea products aren't recommened for use on pups this small, but your vet will have something.

Your vet will also be able to help determine age. As well as give you instructions on how to feed him.

He should be kept warm. A box or crate inside the house, with a heating pad draped on down one side and set on low works well. Only put the heating pad on one side so if he gets to warm he can move away from it.

He'll likely need to be fed puppy milk replacer every few hours.

Again without seeing the pup for myself, your best bet is to bring him into the vet for instructions, a check up, and to have the fleas taken care of.

Good luck.

Something like this happened to me once, except with a cat. First of all you should make a pallet for it to sleep on, I find soft warm blankets to work best.

After you make it comfortable, pull out the phone book and look up a vet near you. Ask several questions, like 1.What do I feed it and with what. 2. Does it need its mother? That kinda thing.

Next you need to get some 2-in-1 dog shampoo that gets rid of fleas and ticks. I'd fill the sink about 3-4 inches high with water and try to give it a bath.

And if you don't want the dog I'd make an add in the newspape, and if that doesn't work ask family members if they'd like to adopt it. For a last resort take it to the pound.

Hope this helps!! Bells

Oh good God, how can somebody do that to a baby animal? Thank you for trying to take care of the pup. It needs to stay warm, call the Humane Society and see if you can place the pup with an experienced foster family for pups. They have people that do nothing but nurture baby animals until they are big enough for adoption. Even if you think you want to keep it, you might want to allow it to go to a foster caretaker for a few weeks if it is that young instead of you trying to guess your way into nursing the pup back to health.

thank you for caring about that little animal. I hope it has a better life ahead than what it just experienced...poor little guy.
