preaching on contraversial subjects anymore (most of them anyways) such as adultry, abortion, homosexuality, fornication lieing ect? I haven't heard a service preached on these in years. I don't understand why they think they can pick and choose and not preach on the things that might offend some. Who are we going to hear these things from if they don't preach it? If God called them into the ministry don't you think He exspects them to preach all of His word not just the I won't step on any toes subjects? There is a reason that things were devinely put into the text of the bible... Do you realize how many Christians do not even read the bible and unless the preacher tells them they have no ideal what is even written in there. They need to know for thereself yes, but if they don't isn't it the responsiblity of the pastor to tell them in sermons? I mean there is some responsiblity held by pastors isn't there?

Obviously you are not reading the same bible that I am reading? Yes MY GOD is a loving and kind God but He is also a just God and just as your parents have rules MY GOD also has set ground rules for you. If you think that everyone is going to heaven my friend you are wrong! It may be people like you that send some well meaning people to hell. There is more to being a preacher than preaching on nice subjects! We need strong Christian leaders in our churches the ones who believe in the whole bible not just the nice happy parts! God Bless You

The bottom line is we as Christians are all called to ministry and we are called to love everyone... we are also called to tell the truth of the Lord and His word. He loves us all I am not saying that He doesn't. I am just saying that even our pastors are on a moral decline because they don't want to offend and their not doing their jobs(some of them). In this day and time we can't afford to not tell people the word of God as it is written. For allwe know God could come back today. I don't mind any one calling me anything for sticking up for the word of God and if that is what people want to do GO FOR IT! You don't hurt my feelings I know where I stand in Christ!:} God Bless You!

If your pastor deals with it one on one thats great at least your church is dealing with those subjects that is refreshing to know I wish I could say the same. I want to find a church that deals with it at all. I know there are a few around who haven't wavered and I thank God for them I commend them for keeping the faith and the word of God in there church...

The way most churches are run, you wouldn't believe the politics motivating the pastor. It's a board that votes to hire and fire and if you step on the toes of any one of that board, you're fired. Plain and simple, the pastors are not always free to speak plainly.

Why do these pastors cling to a dead end job? Who knows. Personally, I'd rather just start my own church out in the woods. Who ever said you had to have a fancy building.

You can't imagine the flack that a pastor will get from congregation members.

Bent on destroying the church are you?

You sound like a fundamentalist and they are ideologues not Christians!!! Look up the difference!!

The church has lost and continues to loose members alarmingly fast, even the catholic church. The root cause is the rise of the extremists in the church driving the good Christians out. You know the ones - the ones that love and worship the loving, inclusive and forgiving god.

Oh sorry - you would not recognise him would you? Obviously a follower of the hell and damnation description!!
Hatred is nothing to do with God but it is all a misguided human emotion along with the ego tripping false preaching!!!

WOW will you be called to account on the final coming!!!!

There's a vast difference between a lecture and teaching the Bible, my friend. Their job is to teach the lessons of Christ, pray for their "sheep" as it were, and build the fellowship and faith of their belief. Personally, I think the rest of it is none of their business, and it doesn't do much but offend people anyway. In preaching, as in anything, you offer the belief of the Church and pray they "get it" and improve their lives. In my humble opinion, preachers have gone astray in what should be taught. Many preaches discuss politics, although refuse to pay taxes. Is that right? Don't you think preaching on homosexuality might offend someone? Or do you want to be selective on who you offend (and judge?) Judge not, my friend.

In my Church we talk about whats going on in the world today and how we can relate to it in the bible,Every Sunday the church is full to capacity, we have an excellent priest who is not afraid to speak the truth but that is why post of us go there because he is honest whom ever it offends, however, he is a priest of the old school much like the head of the catholic church in this country cormac Murphy O'Connor he confirmed Me and I have always admired him, He has had much stick over the years but I believe in him and trust him completely.

Our pastor spends his time teaching and explaining the Bible. When those subjects come up, he speaks on them.

But he does seem to spend a LOT of time on certain topics. Not surprising, though. We're a missionary church, and have a mission of bringing in the hurting. With our turnover, we don't get a lot of time to get into the contriversial stuff. He deals with those one-on-one.

You are correct, many have stopped preaching on controversial subjects. IMHO, out of fear of losing congregants. No one wants to have a shrinking church. What I find interesting, too, is that many now avoid current events in their public prayers. Apparently it is too controversial to pray for an end to war or poverty, or to even acknowledge that a disaster has occurred. Just another reason why I dropped out.

Every preacher and minister is annointed in their own special way. We are all not annointed in one field. Most people who are involved in such things are convicted by God themselves and if they still do not change are dealt with by God Himself.

Isaiah32:17 :- And the effect of righteousness will be peace, and the result of righteousness, quietness and trust forever.

Many a times it the actions of the christians such as us who either bring the back slidders, non-christian or sinners back to Christ.

A very good question. Many churches are not doing that because they don't want to offend anyone and they want to draw more people in. (more people= more money) We call those "feel good churches". A good Christian church is supposed to preach God's Word, weather it be controversial or not. My church is not afraid to do this.

Maybe a part of them is realizing just how bad the church's position is on these topics. The church has had a terrible track record of choosing the wrong side on these issues. And it is fueled by politicians who wish to polarize the public so they can ensure votes.

Adultry, fornication, homosexuality and abortion are not the evils of this society. Religion, itself, is a much worse danger. If society would just get over these superstitious beliefs, perhaps we could put these issues into perspective and actually discuss them with logic and reason, instead of zealotry.
