Your vet should have offered pain killers - most do.
If you're having problems after surgery - always call the vet first.

If the vet did not supply pain pills give him a call and ask for some or better still the pain patch.
He will be fine in a day or 2, but there is no need for him to be uncomfortable in the meantime.
Thanks for being a responsible pet owner.

Hat's off to you, for being a responsible owner, and getting your dog neutered. He will be uncomfortable for 2-3 days. If the vet did not supply you with pain medication for him, I would call the vet back and request some pain medication. I think that will help keep him tremendously, with the discomfort he's having.

You didn't say how long it has been since the operation or how old the dog is now. It would call the vet and tell them what is going on, The vet just might want to examine the dog for a infection. they usually give a few pain pills and instructions.

Ask the vet by phone if there's any pain killer you can give. Most dogs get through this just fine but some have enough pain to be very uncomfortable.

well of course he'll be uncomfortable. i mean, how would you feel? haha.
he scoots around because they probably had to shave around his butt which cause irratation [like when you shave and get razor bumps]. and the only reason he scoots is to try to scratch the itch.
he really shouldnt be walking around. he should be laying down on something really big and fluffy. and you have to bring him his food and water for the next 2-3 days.
hope that helps =] thats what i did wiht my dog when he was int he situation.

Went thru the same thing.
Poor guy was visibly in distress and pain after neutering.
I went out to meat shop and go him a huge raw beef shank bone to chew on . I sure distracted his discomfort, he enjoyed chewing his big bone for hours and hours.
Try it.

There is not much you can do, as long as he is not licking the area and it's healing nicely just leave him alone. Make sure he has his comfy bed and maybe give him a treat to take his mind off the discomfort he is having. It will pass in a couple days after neutering.

When I had my dog fixed I went in to the vets office 3 days in a roll (EVERY MORNING) to get my dog a pain shot!! It cost $12.00 each shot, but it was so very worth it!! I can not stand to see my babies in pain!! The doc thought that it was fine for him to get the shot!! Better than him suffering!! When my sister had her dog fixed it was on a Friday and she took her dog to the emergency vet to get her dog a pain shot. And that is all she was charged for! She called in advance and told them she was just bringing her dog in to get a pain shot because he had surgery on Friday. The vet at E-vet called her vet and o.k. it. The dog felt much better!!
