You and I May Differ
Written by Semper Fi 83 9/15/07

You and I may differ,
On what we choose to believe.
Yet in these same differences,
Do not be decieved.
I don't hate you at all,
Or wish your demise.
I couldn't wish harm to you,
Then look in your eyes.

I may pray for you,
Like you would wish me well.
We'd pick each other up,
If one of us fell.
Why do we think,
That out of debate?
Over our beliefs,
That we harbor hate?
Not for each other, no brother,
Or sister of mine.
You choose to go logical,
I choose the Divine.
Why can we not learn,
This world is our shared space?
We must coexist,
Regardless of faith.

I know to each other,
We seem to be odd.
Your faith lies in science,
My faith is in God.

I still wish you peace.
Eventhough we don't see eye to eye.
I hope you'll accept this poem's sincerity.

I accept your poem's sincerity. However, I would like to point out one factual problem:

I, as an atheist, have no faith in science. Science is a tool. Faith is belief without evidence. Science is all about evidence. Science does not require faith.

I too wish you peace, as you go your own way. We can coexist, and share this world, regardless of your faith and my absence of faith in deities.

Very nice. You are a poet, and I'm so glad the Lord
has taught you how to show it.
You are a Blessing to me,
and I am sure that there are many who agree.
For the ones that don't,
what can I say? I guess, I'll just pray.

Your are the best!
Bless You.

That's "about you and me".

I don't hate people simply because they believe silly things.

But when they try to force everyone else to live according to their false beliefs, or try to prevent the young from being educated, I have a problem with them.

BTW, it isn't "faith" that I have in reason and evidence and science.

Faith is NOT a way to arrive at truth; reason and evidence are.

But that's a quibble. As long as you don't try to shove your beliefs down my throat, or prevent government from doing the right thing, then I don't much care whether you have an imaginary friend that you think you talk to.

Nicely put, but are you going to allow people that don't share your beliefs to marry the love of their live? Or even the loveS? (capitalization to emphasize the plural nature).

Not bad, but I suspect your 'faith' lies in science as well, to the extent it does not contradict with your faith in god.

Argghh... Must... resist... urge... to... be... a... smart-a*s!

Okay... It's genuine. The sentiment is real. Oscar Wilde once said that all bad poetry springs from real emotion.

So... thanks for the sentiment. Let's hug.
