My 9 week old min pin likes to just piss in places and I find it unnecessary to have pea on my nice carpet. Also I hate poop. I have been searching online for advice, but every web site I happen to click on wants me to order the book or video....Where is some good, helpful advice from friend to friend?! I read about sticking a match in the dogs butt hole, but I find the thought alone to be a little appauling! Wow!
Also, she hates the nice big crate, she will cry all night, sometimes I have to stick her on my porch so I can get some sleep, and she still cries. There are toys, food, water, blankies, and bones. She still cries the whole time she is on the porch too. What can I do?

Young puppies have no idea that there are places where they're allowed to 'potty' and places where they're not, you have to teach them what is acceptable.

Crate training is the best method, but it sounds as though the crate you have is too big. You need to give her just enough space to stand up, sit down and turn around without touching the sides. If you give her more than that she'll most likely sleep at one end and pee and poop at the other!

It's perfectly normal for her to cry when she's in the crate. She wants to be with you, and she's letting you know all about it. She will eventually learn to be quiet, and accept being crated but it's important that you don't overuse the crate so that she learns to resent it instead.

Give her plenty of one on one fun and exercise time with you, and make sure that she has her very favorite toys (only safe, sturdy ones though) in there with her. Do not take her out if she's crying, only do that when she's being quiet (even if only
for a few minutes). Always take her potty before you put her in the crate, and immediately you take her again.

There's a lot of free information about potty training, crate training etc. on the site below. Good luck with your puppy!

Hello,
I had the same problem with my lab puppy. She learned in a few weeks. We continued to keep her in her crate until she was about 6 months old. When we were not around to watch her, she was in the crate. This is the only way I know works. Dogs will not soil in the crate because this is where they eat and sleep. I know she will cry, but you need to turn on some music so you will not hear her. Eventually she will get the hang of it and begin to enjoy her crate. Once she knows this is her little home. Also have newspaper in the kitchen by the door and keep decreasing the amount of newspaper and after about 6 days move the paper at the door and then on the steps, then none. I would never put a match by her butt. That is cruel and I have never heard of this. Just keep giving your puppy love and explain to her to go potty outside and take her out OFTEN. She will get the hang of it. It takes a bit longer for smaller dogs, so keep reinforcing the good. Good luck.

Crate training is used as a approach of potty training. The dog learns to hold its bladder considering the fact that they do not wish to make messes in their crate. The crate becomes a position where the canine feels cozy. If you're pondering of adopting this dog have the refuge clarify.

O.K. to potty train all you have to do is this, keep taking out the puppy as much as it's supposed to be taken out then if does anything bad (poop, pee) just scold it but don't hit it just keep the routine going and in no time you will see the progress. Now to crate train all you have to is put an absolute favorite in the crate and make sure the dog sees it hold him/her next to the crate, put the toy in but not the dog, close the door and let the dog see the toy, food, or such and then the dog will want to go in the cage so yeah also when he/she is whimpering in the cage put the cage next to your bed and and cover it with a towel, cloth, shirt, or anything else that may have your scent on it and just keep repeating these things and be patient and in no time you will see how smart your puppy really is you can count on it. Crate coaching is used as a manner of potty coaching. The dogs learns to hold its bladder because of the fact they do no longer prefer to make messes of their crate. The crate will become a place the place the dogs feels shelter. while you're questioning of adopting this dogs have the shelter make clean.

http://www.siriuspup.com/behavior_problems.html Yes, you do need a good training book, I recommend AFTER YOU GET YOUR PUPPY, by Ian Dunbar. You sound very frustrated. Puppies take a lot of time and patience to raise correctly. Get a smaller crate...she'll pee in a too large crate. Take her out at night if she is crying, a pup that age can't hold it all night. Keep her crate near you, not on the porch. She is a BABY and needs comfort and love, not anger. A high energy breed like a minpin needs lots of exercise during the day. It sounds like you are not prepared for raising a puppy just now!

I would suggest scented pee pads. The sent attracts the dogs.
Litter-box training is also good for small dogs and it makes it easier to train them to go outside.

Even though people say crate training works it never has for me.

The puppy should never be left in a crate for more then four hours and should get attention while in the crate or else it may cause behavioural problems.

Have you tried pee pads. They really work for me I have 4 dogs. I know its not the same as going outside but who know maybe you are willing to go that way since your puppy is not cooperating. Pee pads are very easy to use, first try to see if he will pee on them, if he doesnt there is this spray that you can spray on the pee pad although i dont think you will need it. If for any reason that doesnt work, do what I did, put him in a bathroom or small enclosed area cover the whole area with pee pads. Eventually he will use it. Try this for like 3 days slowly taking away a pee pad at a time. After this he will just look for the pee pad wherever you think is the best place to put it for him. It worked for me I really hope this information will help you . Good luck!

when she's in there dont make contact with her. if you do she will get used to you spoiling her and wont be quiet when you leave her alone. she will calm down eventually. the crate should be a place where your dog is comfortable, just have the blanket in there. i had the same problem with my dog and now he loves his crate!

okay when u first start to train a pup or dog. when u get up in the morning do it early around 8am. then take your dog outside and do his business. then bring him inside and feed him and give him a cup of water don't feed him to much. about an hour to 30 mintues later take him back outside and take him to the same spot each time so he can become familiar with his surroundings. don't take him back inside until he uses it. don't feed him after six o'clock, feed him before. the same time everyday. remember before you feed him always take him outside. and before you go to bed at night take him back outside and make sure he uses the bathroom. in two weeks if youi do this he will be trained. and if you don't want him i will take him off your hands. good luck.
