Are religious people aware that the cause of almost any conflict is sole "belief" and not fact? For instance, WW2 was caused by the "Nazi's" based off of THEIR belief.

Are you aware the more one argues you, the more you back into a corner "clinging" to the "belief" being argued and the more upset one gets? Whether it be "American" beliefs or "Christian" beliefs, they are all arguable.

Wars are based off of beliefs, be it political "beliefs" or religious "beliefs" or both.

Gang war fare stems from beliefs.

Genocide's stem from beliefs.

Isn't it ironic that no one fights wars out of "knowledge" and "fact?" America "believed" they are being threatened by terrorists, Al Qaeda "believed" America is imposing on them. Whose belief is actually factual? Who knows? Neither! Thats the difference between a "knowledgable" war and one based on "belief." We have inklings but they cannot be as accurate as 1+1=2, an idea that no war has been fought over.

Beliefs kill, kill or bad.

I would like to add that Atheist are no exception on this one. They have beliefs, as well. This is more a question towards all.

People keep suggesting "greed" or "power" or something similar and not belief. The "idea" of greed stems from the mind and IS a belief. The belief that one needs to acquire more and more.

Someone suggested "it's just religion" but much of religion (outside of ways of life) or "beliefs" as well, such as "Adam and Eve" or even the idea of "God." If humans weren't around to conjure God up, would he exist?

The Cricket, you agree with me, then try to say where you differ, but then suggest people get caught up on their beliefs they become greedy and cause problems. Please re look at the statement as "belief" caused "greed" and then caused the problems. Without the "belief" element, there would be no basis or "root" for greed and no problem. You do agree with me you just are not asking "Why" people are greedy. Greed stems from belief

Lex, I know facts stem from beliefs, but people don't kill over the "theory of gravity" or the like. They know it's a THEORY as it is labeled so. Ever heard a Christian call their belief a "theory?" No, I don't think so. I'm well aware of different styles of belief but it's confusing them with fact that I am after. Theories are still subject to change, much like the Theory of evolution has changed

Red, you THINK Iraq attacked you? Bush is in Iraq because he believed he has weapons and surprise, he was wrong, then it was "liberation of Iraq." You should stop listening to everything your president tells you and try thinking for yourself, for once. Your own belief in his trust is hurting yourself.

It is the judging of others that causes the atrocities on this earth.

Are you awear that most "facts" first begin as a belief? A scientist will come up with a hypothisis. What is a hypothisis other than a mear belief? Sure, it's based on observances, it's a belief none the less. It's something they believe, with a possibility of being either true or false and so they are going to test it.

Are you also awear that facts can be misrepresented and misinterprated? If I were moving to place a ban on dihydrooxcide, I would give the statistics of how many people die when this substance gets into the lungs. And it is a great number. I would tell them that consumption of this material can cause disease in many cases. I would scare them with the fact that this dangerous element can be found in every household. I would not tell them it is a fancy name for water.

It's not the beliefs themselves which are to blame, of course. Most religions teach that killing is wrong, that stealing and lying are also wrong. Love and compassion and respectful kindness are offered as the proper way of life. So what goes wrong -- why do people commit the greatest assaults on others while considering themselves to be on the path to a heaven?! Looked at more analytically, the twist from essential moral conviction into evil masquerading as devotion, comes about with Dogma. Even the usual antipode to religion, Atheism, is frequently riddled with the same pose of dogma, the same scorn for those who don't happen to agree, the same desire to "assist you" over into their belief -- of non-belief, in this case. It's a matter of ego and arrogance that is the real cause of wars and such. Its not in the belief necessarily, but in not allowing another belief.

Everyone has beliefs....some religious and some are not. It's unfair to say religion is the sole purpose of conflict in the world because it's not.

Gangs are anything but religious unless it's MFJ(Murder for Jesus).....and I DO NOT think there is a gang like that...

Genocide stems from HATE not religion

Not only were Americans threatened by Al Qaeda, thousands of Americans were murdered by Al Qaeda...

America was imposing on them....

Both are factual...

There is a difference between a belief that Joe down the street practices polygamy and a belief in a higher being...2 separate things, thanks for just being stupid.

Yes, I think you're right, to an extent. However, it isn't the beliefs themselves that cause wars, whether the beliefs are "good" or "bad." It's HUMANS that cause wars; it's the fact that some people get so hung up on their beliefs that they become greedy.

I think this is naive and you haven't studied your history thoroughly yet. War develops because of the earth's resources and economics. If we didn't care what the Muslims, etc. believed 50 years ago, why do we now? You see, the U.S. does not attack another country because of what they believe. We attacked this time not because we "believed" we were struck by terrorists, but because we WERE attacked by terrorists. Isn't that fact? Research history, starting with Rome and Greece.

I agree in part, but I still feel that almost all wars have been about greed and money. sometimes they hide it behind religion but I don't think it is the root cause.

It's not belief which fuels war, it's greed. The belief only justifies the underlying motive.
