God has revealed Himself to Mankind through His Son sent down from heaven, the Lord Jesus Christ. The record of His teachings and His redemption through His death on the cross and resurrection from the dead are contained in the Four Gospels, the first four books of the New Testament. The fifth book is the Book of the Acts of the Apostles, which relate the works of His followers after He ascended into heaven. The remainder books are the teachings of Paul, the Apostle to the Gentiles and several others as conveyed to disciples in letters, or epistles as they are sometimes called. The last book in the New Testament is the prophetic Book of Revelation, foretelling the end of the Age and the final triumph of the Kingdom of God.
As for the Old Testament, this is really all a prelude to God's revelation of His Son, and contains various records of God's dealings with mankind, and particularly with the descendants of Abraham, Isaac and Jacob, who became the Nation of Israel. These include commandments, histories and many prophecies, especially pertaining to Jesus Christ, the promised Messiah.
That of course is a very abbreviated summary.
The term "Bible" refers to the Old and new Testaments (or really a better word than Testament is Covenant)

The Old Testament is what the Jewish religion is based on. Cristians also believe in the Old Testament, but they also believe in the New Testament which is mostly writings about Jesus Christ whom Christians believe in but Jews don't. It also gives a history of the early Church. The Old Testament is mostly the law and history of the early Israelites. Creation, Exodus, wars, kings, prophecies, and other stuff. The book of Deuteronomy is mostly the laws given to Isreal by God. Hope that answered some questions. And, the Pope doesn't add and subtract stuff from the Bible anymore. There are millions of Bibles in the world, it would be impossible to do that. But at one point, the Vatican did choose what to put in the Bible and what not to put.

The bible consist of two parts: the old testament and the new testament. The old testament is the part starting with Genesis (the creation of the world, and Abraham and all that) while the new testament deals with the segments closer to the times of Jesus with the writings of St luke, St mark and the like.

God's revelation is progressive. The Old Testament, written before the New Testament, reveals God's holiness- his hatred for sin. The New Testament reveals God's grace- his provision for sin, the sacrifice of his one and only son that whoever believes in him shall not perish but receive eternal life.

The Bible (Is the old and the New testament conbined). In the Old Testament . (Old Covenent) the Isrealites followed the Law (basically a list of rules and regulations) and they killed bulls and goats for the sacrifice for thier sins. They believed that the blood of bulls and goats would take away their sin. In the New testement Jesus Christ became that sacrifice for all sin. He died for the world and became that (perfect sacrifice) for sin (For All Generations). God knew we could never earn our way into heaven so He had to send His Son Jesus Christ. It is up to us to recieve Him into our heart as Lord and Savior.Salvation is a free gift because God is a merciful God that is why He sent His son to take the punishment for our sin.We dont have to work to earn it in other words.
I would encourage you to read the New Testament First. It will bridge the gap between the 2. Both the Old and the New Tesament speak of the comming one Jesus Christ. Isaiah (Old testament) prophetically tells of the comming One in
Isaiah 9:6-7 There are also many other references in the bible that speak of the Messiah. There are also many (Jewish people) who have come to believe in Jesus(Yeshua) as their messiah as well. These people are called Messianic Jews.

Basically the two testaments are different conceptions of "God". In the Old Testament, "God" is a personified, supernatural deity who is very jealous of other gods and sees the Jewish people as his chosen people. Jesus comes along (a Jew himself) and says the Old Testament is largely wrong. People don't need to follow the Old Testament and "God" is not what they say in the OT. Jesus introduces a new concept of God (one of love in the NT to replace the angry, exclusionary and jealous God of the OT).

There is still some confusion as to what Jesus' conception of "God" really was. There are multiple gospels in the New Testament with differing "God" forms. The Catholic church prefers the OT-style supernatural "God" who rules over the world as a benevolent dictator somewhere outside of our 4-dimensional universe. But other gospels (the Gnostic gospels) are more logical and declare that Jesus' conception of "God" (love) was more humanistic- "God" is within all of us and we need only to allow "God" to unfold into our world through us.

In value, there is none.

In language, the first section was written in Hebrew mostly. The second, from Matthew to Revelations, in mostly Greek.

So instead of referring to them as old and new testaments, it would more properly be called Hebrew and Greek scriptures.
