Asalamualaikum,
obviously as we all know, we can't eat or drink while fasting. But when I make Wudu for prayer, when rinsing my mouth I can't gargle properly and I end up swalling some water. It happens accidently because I can't gargle! Will this invalidate my fast?

PS - Ramadan Mubarak to all

You should try your best NOT to swallow the water you use for wudhu. However, if it is unintentional or accidental, it will not break your fast.

Happy fasting!!!

As salaamu a'laikym warahmatullahi wabaraktuh, my friend.

Insha'Allah, rinsing ones mouth need not necessarily mean to "gargle". Rinsing ones mouth seem to more appropriately mean swishing the water around in ones mouth and then expelling the same.

The Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him, his family and his followers) said that if he had not seen it as a burden, he would have instructed the Muslims to brush their teeth before making salat.

As one has not eaten any food since prior to praying fajr, brushing of ones teeth nor gargling should be necessary as a part of wudu in prparation to making salat. Rinsing the mouth well, as described previously, should be sufficient.

Brushing of ones teeth is allowed as a part of wudu as long as it does not disrupt the rythm of making wudu.

It has been recommended by some that one brush ones teeth prior to making wudu if the individual feels that the same is necessary and making wudu in the usual manner.

Insha'Allah, as you did not do this deliberately, one might understand that Allah, Subhanna wa Ta'ala, gave you the water to drink and so it is allowed as long as you are not doing the same so as to deliberately break the fast.

I would also recommend that you speak to the imam at the masjid you attend, or someone else there who may, undoubtedly, be wiser and more knowledgable then I for a better clarification of this matter.

Anything that I may have said that is correct and helps others is from Allah, Subhanna wa Ta'ala, and all praise and glory is for Him and Him alone. Anything which I have said that is in error is mine own and I pray that Allah, Subhanna wa Ta'ala, will forgive me and guide me to the truth.

Ramadan Mubarak, ma'a salaam.

In short, during Ramadan fasting time please do not gargle during Wudu. This gargling part of the rinsing (wadu) is not required while fasting.

Btw, we just completed our second of the Ramadan on 15th September and performed Tarawee for the 3rd after Esha prayer, two hours ago (8pm our time).

Wish you Ramadan Mubarak too!

What Breaks Your Fast?
Obviously, eating, drinking and sexual intercourse all break one's fast. However, there are a few grey areas that need clarification:

Wudu (ablution before prayer) - as you may know, washing the mouth out with water is an essential part of wudu, but special care must be taken not to swallow any of this water if you are fasting. Whilst accidentally swallowing the water may not be enough to break your fast, it is still best to be careful. I would use less water than usual, maybe even just moistening the fingers and using them to wipe out the inside of the mouth.
Cleaning teeth with toothpaste whilst fasting - opinion seems to be divided on this. Some say it is permissible as you are not intending to eat or drink, whilst others say it isn't as the flavour of the toothpaste could still be swallowed along with saliva. The best ways to avoid this dilemma is to either make sure you clean you teeth before the fast begins at fajr, using a toothbrush without any paste, or (best of all) using a siwak. This is a type of tree root with natural antiseptic qualities that has been traditionally used for cleaning teeth since before Muhammad was born (peace and blessings be upon him).
Vomiting - unintentional vomiting will not break your fast. If you are feeling ill though, you really shouldn't be fasting at all. Intentional vomiting WILL break your fast, and you should pay qafarra for this.
Ejaculation - unintentional ejaculation as a result of a wet dream will not break your fast, but you should take ghusl (bath) as soon as you realise this has happened. Intentional ejaculation through intercourse is deliberate breaking of the fast, and qaffara should be observed.
Vaginal discharge - this does not affect the fast at all.
Injections - this could break your fast, but this depends on what the injection is used for. If it is for nourishment of some sort (for example, anabolic steroids taken for the purposes of bodybuilding or sports), then this would break your fast. If it is medicinal (for example, a vaccination or a diabetic's insulation injection) this does NOT break the fast.
Asthma inhaler - using this does NOT break the fast.

What I do before Fajr is take baking soda on my finger and scrub my teeth with it. Then I do Wu'du and use very little water to rinse my mouth out. I use just little water up the nose, not enough to fall back onto my throat. You should be ok though as long as you didn't swallow on purpose just to ingest the water. I know some people that can't control the gag reflex and they swallow a little water but because it is a medical condition I do not believe they broke their fast.

I examine someplace in some Hadith , that the Phrophet observed. suggested that when you pay attention the Athan, end what you have on your hand. Now this would not advise you proceed eating for yet another 0.5 hour. Ex: in case you're eating a tumbler of water and are halfway finished, end it and then placed the glass down. Wala hu alam, Allah knows suitable. What concerns is your purpose. basically Allah knows if it replaced into an mistake or no longer. :) Allah is Ar Raheem, the main Merciful. this is asserted that in spite of in case you consume till ultimately your filled at a similar time as fasting, on account which you forgot and accidentally did this mistake, your quickly remains valid.

What is accidental will not break your fast... though if one has the intention to have a little water go down their throat whilst doing Wudu then that will. Allah knows best!

May your faith do miracles ! May your tribe increase!
Sit in front of a mirror for fifteen minutes and observe your neck in the mirror. You will see yourself swallowing your saliva a few times. Your Adam`s apple moves up to show you swallowed.
You can not stop swallowing even if you are on fast.
Ramdan Mubarak to you and all others.

I don't think it will invalidate it if its accident but try to just swish the water and spit it out right away when you make wudu its what I do during ramadan.
