When Jesus came, he changed "an eye for an eye" with "turning the other cheek". That means, don't take revenge to those who make you suffer
It is very true, if everyone is revenging eventually everyone will end up in pain. In Romania, when we receive a gift for no reason sometimes we share a part of it to someone else, cause we say "from gift to gift, it all becomes heaven"

First of all, you should know that the Christian interpretation of this to mean something along the lines of "If someone knocks out your eye, you knock out his" is completely wrong.
It never meant that. If someone knocked out someone's eye, there were set monetary compensations for things like that. Nobody knocked out the eye of the person who did it. It didn't work like that. There was also the court system, for those who desired to take the matter there and seek compensation.
Nobody was taken out and had their eye knocked out, or whatever the case was, because they had done it to someone else. That ISN'T how it worked.
But the church never teaches this, do they. Nope, they teach that it was Jewish law that if someone caused harm to someone else, the same thing was done to them. Why does the church teach this total inaccuracy? Because it feeds into their propaganda that the law was so harsh nobody could fulfill it (which is in no way true at all), and thus the need for the church and Jesus.
A little education goes a long ways.
As far as whether you should forgive, you can always forgive. But was the damage repaired, or compensation offered along with a sincere apology by the person who did the damage?
If not, then the person who did the damage will not learn that this is not an acceptable behaviour. No consequences, no learning. And you are out whatever damage was done to you or your property. This is unfair to both people involved and will not help society become a more functional place.
Forgiveness is only part of it. Damages must be repaired one way or another, as well.

Jesus says we should always forgive. An eye for an eye is in the OT. But Jesus' teachings are hard to follow, so many either fall, or ignore them all together, and go their own way. According to Jesus, we should forgive everything, and if there are offenses that shouldn't be forgiven, then HE will handle punishment, not us. But humans think there are things which should and shouldn't be forgiven, and they are the ones who set that up. So, many Christians, aren't really Christians at all. Because it's too hard to be one, especially nowadays. This is y atheism is a small, but powerful minority today.

Remember an eye for an ey was given to civil government, not to individuals. Today our courts still use that basic principle. What do you think our society would be like if the courts took your advice and just forgave everyone. Do you think the crime rate might go up a little? Would it be wonderful if we just forgave all criminals and opened all the doors to all the prisons and just let everyone out? Think about it.
When Jesus talked to individuals He said turn the other cheek, (stop the fight before it goes any farther) but to governemnt and the judicial system the eye for an eye still applies.

"An eye for eye was merely a expression of Jesus Christ
,meaning death for those who murder other people.
Where capital punishment is enforced, very few serious crimes happen. This is the truth. God has given severe punishment in divine Books (Torah, Bible and Quran) for the societies to have peace and not riddled with criminals.
It is very bad for countries where people call God's laws as barbaric. They are saying indirectly for God of Abraham, Moses, Jesus and Mohammad (peace be upon them) as BARBARIC.
Crimes in their countries are extremely high. Because there is no deterrant to killing, stealling or raping women and children. Building too many prisons and feeding criminals for long years is foolish and a great tax burden on society.
It is sad that even Catholic Priests have been molesting children studying religion in Church Schools. If there was a death penalty for raping women and children. they would enjoy safety and happy life free from fear of criminals.

You should forgive because it frees YOU. Forgiving isn't for the person you're forgiving--its for you. Letting go of anger is the only way to move on with your life after someone has done something hurtful to you.

Here's what Jesus had to say about "An eye for an eye and a tooth for tooth..."
Matthew 5:38
"You have heard that it was said, 'An eye for an eye, and a tooth for a tooth.' But I tell you, do not resist an evil person. If someone strikes you on the right cheek, turn to him the other also. And if someone wants to sue you and take your tunic, let him have your cloak as well. If someone forces you to go one mile, go with him two miles. Give to the one who asks you, and do not turn away from the one who wants to borrow from you."

that's a practice of old.
Now if someone slap you on your left face give the other side. This not literal, means forgive them without any conditions.
If you're a christian hard core it's easy practice but if your not sue them.
