Is there any specific meaning on that day?

Why did Bin Laden or M. Atta choose such a specific date, September the 11th?

Muslims and Arabs have a different calender than we do. They placed no signficance to that particular date or those numbers. That was dumb luck.

The attack was supposed to occur a couple of months earlier but was postponed for personnel reasons (they had some issues with some of their people). Bin Laden and Atta got impatient and had to chose a date for the attack and that's the one they picked off the calender.

Like CS said it was a day chosen because people were at work and congress was in session. Same thing with them choosing 7/11 for their subsequent attack in India. Seems pertinent after that fact but reality is it just happened to be on that particular date.

9/11 was not chosen for the significance of the emergency call number nor any other numerological purposes. It was not 9/11 on their calenders.

1) New York City has 11 letters
2) Afghanistan has 11 letters.
3) Ramsin Yuseb has 11 letters. (The terrorist who threatened to destroy the Twin Towers in 1993)
4) George W Bush has 11 letters.
This could be a mere coincidence, but this gets interesting:
1) New York is the 11th state.
2) The first plane crashing against the Twin Towers was flight number 11.
3) Flight 11 was carrying 92 passengers. 9 + 2 = 11
4) Flight 77 which also hit Twin Towers, was carrying 65 passengers. 6+5 = 11
5) The tragedy was on September 11, or 9/11 as it is now known. 9 + 1+ 1 =11
6) The date is equal to the US emergency services telephone number 911.
9 + 1 + 1 = 11

1) The total number of victims inside all the hi-jacked planes was 254.
2 + 5 + 4 = 11.
2) September 11 is day number 254 of the calendar year.
Again 2 + 5 + 4 = 11.

3) The Madrid bombing took place on 3/11/2004. 3 + 1 + 1 + 2 + 4 = 11.
4) The tragedy of Madrid happened 911 days after the Twin Towers incident.
Now this is where things get totally eerie:
The most recognized symbol for the US, after the Stars & Stripes, is the Eagle. The following verse is taken from the Koran, the Islamic holy book:
"For it is written that a son of Arabia would awaken a fearsome Eagle. The wrath of the Eagle would be felt throughout the lands of Allah while some of the people trembled in despair still more rejoiced: for the wrath of the Eagle cleansed the lands of Allah and there was peace."
That verse is number 9.11 of the Koran.

i don't know of anything that has been found that indicates he picked 9/11 for any special reason. The attacks made 9/11 "special" and was most like just a random date based on when everyone was in place, ready to go and gt tickets. It could have been the 10 or the 12 but all that would mean is that 10 or 12 Sept would now be remembered rather then the 11th.

From Luke's Gospel it says that Jesus was born within a few minutes of 6:30-7:30 pm on the evening of September 11th, 3 BC. The Muslims hate for the Christians and Jews is through out the Koran... so it follows that the real birth of Jesus would be the day.

The significance of the date, is the horrendous act that took place. Before the attack by Islamic fanatics, 9/11 was no more significant than 9/10 or 9/12.

For all we know, 9/11 could have been one of many dates considered. Conditions, whatever they were, were probably just as good or better than previous dates considered. As it was, there were nineteen terrorists involved which seems like an odd number. One apparently was detained, by authorities. The decision to move on that date may have been prompted over concerns of being detected, given that one of their members had been detained.

It was the anniversary of the day when the Polish Warrior King, Jan Sobieski, rode at the head of a Christian Army to stop the forward advance of Turkey's Muslim Army at the Gate of Vienna. The next day he defeated that army and the Muslims began their retreat out of Central Europe into its current borders. September 11, 1684 marked the end of Islamic forward movement into Europe. It was also the anniversary of the ground-breaking ceremony for the Pentagon building in 1942.
In similar vein, the London transit bombings were on the anniversary of the date in 1922 when the British Foreign Secretary drew the new map of the Middle East on the back of a napkin at a private club in London. The bombings in Madrid, Spain happened on the anniversary of the fall of Grenada, the last Muslim enclave in Moorish Spain.
These Salafist Jihadists are dead set on re-establishing "Dar-Al-Islam" (the World of Islam) that existed centuries ago. A world with a single Islamic Caliph running the entire operation from Spain and Portugal westward to Indonesia.

No symbolism at all. We're giving the terrorists too much credit. They choose a regular work day which would have empty flights and in which Congress was in session. That's it. No symbolism.
