What Is a Tool for Your Hands for God to use?
With the tip of the staff that was in his hand, the angel of the Lord touched the meat and the unleavened bread. Fire flared from the rock, consuming the meat and the bread. And the angel of the Lord disappeared. - Judges 6:21
How does God call people into His service? There is a clear pattern in the way God calls men and women into service for Him. Almost every major leader has been called while he or she was in the midst of performing his or her everyday vocation. Peter was a fisherman; Matthew, a tax collector; Luke, a physician; Paul, a tentmaker; Moses, a shepherd; Jesus, a carpenter; and so on.
When God called Gideon to free the people of Israel from the oppression of the Amalekites, he did so while Gideon was threshing wheat in a winepress. Like Moses, Gideon argued with God, saying his family was nothing special, so how could he be used of God to save Israel? Gideon acknowledged God by preparing an offering to Him.

The angel did an interesting thing with Gideon's offering; he took the tip of his staff and touched the meat and the unleavened bread. Fire flared from the rock, consuming the meat and the bread. As with Moses, God chose to do a miracle with a staff, the instrument that symbolized Gideon's work life. Why would God do this? It is because God wants us to know that the tools He has given each of us are the tools He wants to use to demonstrate His power. However, in order for that to happen, we must yield our tools to Him for miracles to be manifested through them.
Have you yielded your tools to the Lord? God wants you to have an overriding ministry objective to your work life. He doesn't necessarily want you to leave your work; He sometimes wants you to work through your work. Allow Him to do that today.

Your question has stopped me dead in my tracks. I teach a Sunday School class but I stopped taking part in the Children's Club (and they need teachers) because I couldn't take an elderly sister's criticisms any more. I still feel guilty about it though.

Indeed, I do use my talents for the Lord, in many ways. You know why? Because He is the One who equipped me with these gifts! How can I NOT use that which He freely gave to me?
When I entered college, I was frightened about taking my English class as it had been so long since I had been to school. After the first few classes, something clicked inside of me and I couldn't write enough! The more assignments, the better!
Now, not knowing how I would use a degree in this field, I pressed on. After I graduated, a few months later, I was asked to teach a Bible study. It was something I had to really pray about as I knew there would be much research! I accepted. The next thing God did was to open a door for me to write not only Bible studies but, plays as well. Biblical plays that I based soley on the scriptures! There were generations of famil members involved in them and the church became more and more receptive to them.
My business partner, held a degree in fine arts. Years ago, she taught me how to sew and paint. From this, we made over 60 costumes, numerous backdrops and props dated from the specific time period! It was and is a blast!
But, you see, throughout my life, God had been preparing me with gifts I could use to glorify HIM! All I had to do was to surrender to Him and life has been ever so fun and interesting since!
I could testify much more on this topic; however, I suppose i had better leave room for others! lol

I think God calls us to objectively assess our own talents and abilities and then use them. If you don't know what your talents are then it's time to do some self-assessment to determine what they are. Everyone has special gifts and abilities.
I would be a horrible teacher, but I am an excellent administrator. My parents were both Sunday School teachers - my mom taught kids and my dad taught adults and I always thought if I should do the same. It took me a while to realize that teaching is NOT my gift (I never taught, just felt bad for not doing it for so long).
We spend so much time trying to fix what's wrong with us, that we don't take the time to figure out what's right with us and use it to God's glory.
Just my $.02.

I feel that one tool God has placed in my hands is writing - like that Scripture in Psalm 45:1 - "My tongue is the pen of a ready writer." Even though writing is not my "job" (as in vocation), I love doing it, and believe that God will use it further, possibly with a blog or website.
The cool thing is that whether what we have seems big or small God will accept it and find ways to bless it and use it to bring glory to Him and blessing to others, whether it is giving Him our broken heart (Psalm 51: 17; Psalm 147:3) or a lunch like the little boy gave to Jesus, which He then multiplied to feed 5,000 (John 6: 5 - 14). All we have to do is give to Him what we have and allow Him to do the rest (also, co-operating with what He shows us, of course).

I have first been called to witness. Then I have a true passion for preaching the word of God. It just rolls out of me...I also have the gift of BOLDNESS. Mind you It needs some polishing,(It tends to get me Into trouble) but We are no surprize to God as He made Each One of Us. He'll never ask more out of Us than He's Gifted Us with. He knows what ALL of us are capable of doing. As we all have our own set of fingerprints & DNA,we all have a purpose that Only We Can Do. Ask yourself. What motivates you ? What are you passionate about when It comes to serving The Lord ? God will reveal these things/gifts to you...

Amen! Ya know I feel like I have been putting this off- and I know I have! One day long ago in the church bulletin it said they needed help with the juvenile hall ministry. I knew this is something I needed to volunteer for, but I kept putting it off--- I am bad at committing! And this is horrible! I got involved with helping out in childrens ministry, but the class I was in actually did not need any help, so now I am not in that class, and I am once again, thinking about that juvenile hall ministry--- so this Sunday I MUST talk to the person in charge. I know this is God who keeps pushing me to do this- I know it is for His glory and I want to be of help, so I need to just stop thinking of excuses! I have always thought it would be neat to help out in the juvenile hall ministry too. So what am I waiting for? God has already told me twice! : )

I have a wild imagination. I can here a song, and see "the picture" we take many songs and make small skits for the youth at church that go along with the songs, I love to do this, it brings the song's to life, and the kids like it as well. Plus it will bring in the kids parents who don't normaly come to church.
