Help, I have a 6 month lab mix puppy who hates to be left alone.
When I first got him he was great but now he goes ballistic when no one is home. He was in a crate but I decided to leave him in the kitchen, with the radio on, and he was good. But now he barks and whines all day while I'm at work. I'm only gone for 3 hours during the day. I work close to home so I check on him sometimes, but when I see him I think that makes him worse. We go running and walking for at least 30 minutes every morning. So what can I do?
Is there any medicine I could give him to relax.
Maybe some natural products?
Please Help !

go to your vet. they will give him some "doggy volume". he is still a puppy so he is a little more nervous that a dog. one of my dogs is 4 years old and she is a nervous wreck. she is scared of pillows, basketballs, and after 9:00 P.M. me!!! well leave him home for a few more months and see how he does. if he is still doing it after hes about 1 1/2 years old then take him to get the medicine. good luck.

HI
I have a Pom named Aiden and he is the Alpha male in the house and he is my baby
I know he really suffers when I am not home but here is my trick and this really seems to work for me so maybe if you try it you can avoid and type of Drugs for your pup
As I get ready to leave I go over the gate and he is the first to be there looking @ me and I will always have their cookies there and I give Aiden his first and then As I am leaving I will kiss him and tell him how much I love him and let him know he is the boss of the house and for him to watch it while I am gone ( Words of Encouragement)
it took a few weeks but he is doing real good Now no more crying for me and he will come running when he hears me unlocking the door so I know he is not sitting there waiting on me all day
Try it and see if that works I really hope it does
Take Care
Anne

It could be just as simple as reestablishing dominance, so he knows when you go it's up to you when you return and not him.
Before you leave ignore him for 15 minutes, and then 3 minutes before leaving give him a stuffed kong or a massive dog treat, anything that will keep him busy. When you come to check on him don't make a fuss, walk in, see that everythings okay, say Good Bye in a blunt tone and leave.

Seperation anxiety is pretty common. One method that seems to work is to kind of wean him off you. Leave him in the room for two minutes, then come back, gradually increase the amount of time he's alone for and he should learn that you'll always be back. Maybe he's just really not happy in the kitchen anymore?

amziex has it right!

Think about how you behave toward the dog when you go out for just a moment to get the mail or newspaper, and when you return. That is exactly how you should behave when you leave and come back - whether for 5 minutes or 5 hours. Your comings and goings should be very matter-of-fact and low key.

yes there is not sure the name, vet might know. Behavioral training may be the best bet. Try googling dog separation anxiety. On of my dogs has it too. Best of Luck!!
