Have some friends who are thinking of getting married in vegas with some close family and friends attending. Wouldnt be more than 50 people. I want to know if anyone has done this, and what their experience was. Where they did it, how much fun it was, expenses, what your guests thought, you know i want to know everything. Especially outdoor pool(by the water), garden, golf course weddings, as they are not the gonna get married in a chapel type of couple. Are there reception packages that were included in a wedding package?

The Riveria does a package with a reception in the room - http://www.rivierahotelchapel.com/deluxewedding.htm
Outside - their best bet may be eith the Tropicana - http://www.tropicanalv.com/weddings.asp or the Flamingo - http://www.harrahs.com/casinos/flamingo-las-vegas/casino-misc/weddings.html as both are gazebo "chapels" set outside by the pools. For a nice place that does weddings and receptions and is a bit different - try Victoria's - http://avictorias.com/ - it's off Strip - and very nice & they will NOT fell like it's a factory setting. Another really wonderful place (though pricey) that meets all your requirements) is Chapel Fiorenza at Lake Las Vegas - it has water, is lovely and way off the beaten path and is just beautiful - http://www.chapelfiorenza.com/ - they would LOVE IT!

I had a wedding for 50 in Vegas in 2004, and it was so much fun. We got married on the 103rd floor of the Stratosphere Tower. The decor was a little insipid (pastel cupids and stuff), but the view was nothing short of amazing -- you have a 360 degree view. We had the reception in one of the banquet rooms (also at the top of the tower), and after we ate, most of the adults sat around and talked while I and some of the parents took all the kids to ride the roller coaster and Big Shot at the top of the tower. We had an $1100 package that included uses of the chapel, a minister, a dozen photos, a bouquet (nice - all roses), a DVD, and an Elvis impersonator (optional). The banquet room was extra, but because we did a lunchtime wedding, the menu was considerably less expensive than dinner. Catering is done by their excellent restaurant, and we had a buffet for $60/head that included a carving station (prime rib and turkey) in addition to osso bucco, halibut, chicken, sides, and a dessert buffet (6 different pies, cakes and cheesecakes; we skipped having a "wedding cake"). We decided on a dry wedding because there were a few recovering alcoholics among our guests, and because it was during the day, it really wasn't a big deal.

Our immediate families LOVE Vegas, so it was an easy sell to get them to travel from LA. But the best part was that we had a number of guests who had to come from the far reaches of the US to get to us. We told them to bring their kids and make a weekend of it. We had friends from DC, Virginia, and Tennessee travel to spend the weekend for us, and it was fabulous. The day before the wedding, I had a mini bachelorette party (I hosted it) at the "Thunder from Down Under" show at the Excalibur, and my husband took his buddies to play golf. The night of the wedding, we had a fun dinner at the Venetian with our friends while our parents hit the casinos.

In total, I don't think we spent more than $6K for the weekend, and that included hosting the bachelor/bachelorette events, hotel, and airfare. Between the dozen or so pictures I bought from the photographer and the vast number of digital shots I got from my guests, I didn't miss having a serious photographer at all.

Now - granted, the Stratosphere is NOT in a nice part of the Strip, and it is certainly no Bellagio. It does, however, have an utterly fabulous view, and it's kid-friendly.

BTW: here is a link to the florist that I used to do my flowers. They were cheap and did a great job. Don't be scared off by their website, because it's kind of cheesy. http://www.lasvegasbouquet.com/

If you look at the official web sites of the Las Vegas casinos you will see that most of them have detailed wedding sections. Many people still think of Vegas weddings as cheesy with a small chapel and Elvis saying the wedding vows. But in reality there are a wide variety of extremely well thought out wedding packages offered by all the top hotels. You can pick and choose the package you want and customize it to suit.

we got married on the Bellagio terrace overlooking their lake and fountains last year and that was wonderful.

There are over 80 wedding venues (mainly chapels) to choose from, a lot of whom have outdoor facilities (gazebos, waterfalls, pools, garden locations etc) but it's best to start with a budget they want to spend as costs vary dramatically. They could also think of a location like the Grand Canyon, Lake Las Vegas etc.

The link below is to an article about outdoor wedding locations in Las Vegas which may help.

I got married at the Mandalay Bay - you can get married at the Shark Reef or poolside in a Cabana - check it out - http://www.mandalaybay.com/thingstodo/weddings.aspx
we had out reception there as well - upstairs at THe Mix club. It was very nice - can't say enought about the great people or the place! We had 44 people & we had a BLAST - we partied all weekend & I know we saved money over the costs from what it would have been in L.A.

I got married in Vegas and it was great. I used the Imperial Palace Hotel - the hotel casino's do a great job with their weddings - that's where they should look. Most of them do a "poolside wedding" & will also arrange receptions as well. Here's a loist of hotels with weddings facilities:http://www.vegas.com/weddings/hotelchapels.html
