The two greatest commandment of the Christian faith are you shall love your God with all of your heart, mind, soul, and strength and your neighbor as yourself (by the way, these commandments were first given to the jewish people in the Old Testament).
These are not practiced because it requires self-sacrifice and putting yourself last. People tend to be greedy and selfish and do not want to put themselves last. They also do not trust God and their fellow man enough to believe that if they put themselves last, God and others will place their needs ahead of their own.

Others answered correctly, regarding total love for God and fellow man.
Your observation regarding "Why are these not practiced" demonstrates your own neglect to do so, for this statement is a condemnation.
They are practiced by true Christians. Would a true Christian make the accusation other Christians were not doing this? How does this blanket statement of yours demonstrate your love for others?
Are you not therefore guilty of the very thing you accuse others of?
Edit:
My apologies. I read over your profile after answering. I just assumed from your question that you professed to be Christian.

Why do you like a Jew to make sparkling? you may study the ten commandments in the Jewish scriptures, the Torah, additionally regular because of the fact the Pentateuch or the 5 books of Moses. seek for the e book of Exodus, it fairly is likewise lined in the outdated testomony of the Bible. The regulation is written to the Jewish human beings, to set them aside from the polytheistic pagans they stay between, and as an affidavit of their faith in God. it fairly is a algorithm that save them ritually organic so they might have get entry to to God. it fairly is not a Christian or a Jewish area of say this ... it fairly is a properly suited area of say this. study the textual content fabric for your self and notice.

With all due respect, in order to answer questions one must as a matter of course recite scripture in order to derive the basis of reason for the referenced practice of Christianity.
a). Your question very clearly asks: "What are the two greatest commandments in the Christian faith?"
b). In order to establish these commands, one must acknowledge the source from which they are derived;
c). If you sincerely desire to understand something, you must research the evidence to prove, or disprove any given hypothesis;
d). The Bible which is referenced as the source of all scripture upon which Christianity is based must be the reference from which any truth flows through and from;
e). The Bible states: "All scripture is God breathed..."
further, it states: "Cast not your perils before swine" so, it is my desire that you and those who may read this answer with a searching heart might come to believe in the one true God which is Jesus Christ. (Ref: John 1:1---)
Finally, in answer to your question: The greatest command given unto men: "Love the LORD GOD with all your heart, mind and soul" and the second is like unto the first, "Love others as unto yourself."
Can you do that??? May you and others come unto Him who is able to deliver your soul from eternal destruction unto everlasting life. Amen!!!

Love God and love your fellow man, these are the two greatest commandments. Why are they not followed? There are a myriad of reasons. Satan is misleading the whole world; people are lovers of themselves and material things rather than other humans; people are selfish and full of hate; they do not follow the teachings of Christ but the traditions of men; etc, etc. Strangely enough, Jesus prophesied that this would be the case.

The two greatest commandments (Jesus himself said this) are: 1. to love God and, 2. to love your neighbor as yourself.
It's reasonable to assume that the reason why loving God is the greatest commandment is because the closer we are to God, the more we're with him; and because we love the Lord, we would naturally follow his other commandments put forth. As for the second greatest commandment: Similarly, if we love our neighbor, we would be less inclined to sin against them, and hence, better able to follow the other commandments put forth.

I thought Christ said they were ''Love the Lord thy God and love thy neighbour as thyself''.
Human nature almost makes them both impossible, I'd think. I'm an atheist but the last commandment makes perfect sense to me. But human beings are often too shallow, selfish and intolerant to make it a reality.

To love your neighbor as yourself and to put no other Gods before God. I think people dont do it because its to hard and they want to mean to others.

WHY what?
Love God.
Love others and treat them as you want to be treated.
I practice it.
Why do you say these are not practiced?

In this day and age, I think these are important:
I am the Lord thy God, who brought thee out of the land of Egypt, out of the house of bondage. Thou shalt have no other gods beside me.
Thou shalt not take the name of the Lord thy God in vain
