they did at first, until John Madden the First reported that it was only the God Year Blimp

There is very little outside evidence for the star. Probably the best is a comet observed in china around 3 CE but not sure if the timing works out.
It seems very strange that no one noticed, except for the wise men who had to travel up to 2 years.

I don't think it is weather satellite. It a star in Heaven to guide the great men from the west to their journey to Bethlehem.
People on that time they just analyze the sky for weather information.

I have heard that at approximately the same time as they project the historical account, Scientists at NASA have discovered that there actually was a star that went supernova, and would have appeared in the sky as a very bright star. They say that it would have been visible for several months.

Nobody reported a star on the night that Jesus was born. The "wise men" saw it in the east. It was two years later that they arrived in Bethlehem.
