I want to know what the trend is for the under 25 crowd, not knowing how to tip?

If they don't know by high school or college, will they ever know? How come parents and schools aren't teaching simple facts like a tip is not included and should be left for good service.

i work as a waitress. Last night, I had two tables at the same time and gave equal service. One table was a couple over 30, they tipped 20%. The other table about 24/25 tipped 5% on an $80 check.

I mean, they were happy and I wrapped all their left overs to go and brought them refills.

I dont' understand why it's that hard for each of them to leave $2 on the table, so at least leave a 10%.

What do people think?

A co-worker waited on 7 high school girls and they left her 10 dollars on a $130 check.

I'm also 24. I have debt and bills. But, if I can't afford a tip, you should not eat out.

That's not a server thing, I was raised to believe that.

I'm also a student and I'm getting a degree. So, yes....I'm doing better for myself.

Not all waitress are Lowlifes.

Some are SAHM working for extra money
Some are working 2nd jobs
Some young women are using their tips to buy a house/pay for a wedding.

We aren't just doing it b/c we can't find anything better............that's a myth.

Okay, do not concentrate to Ssj! Steal something shine you'll! Lol. Truly, there is not any technique to make your self daydream. And, it does not consistently aid. Sometimes your creativeness can run slightly too wild, and in making a tale this manner, it is going to sound well for the second, however eventually it may possibly look a bit of ridiculous. There's no components to writing a tale, except you want to get technical. However, you have to create one that you simply like (so you do not bore your self writing it!), and one that almost all readers could discover intriguing. Nowadays, no person is thoroughly long-established. Over the the years, there were reviews of a wide variety, it is nearly inconceivable to thieve no less than slightly little bit of an concept; however do not take that the improper manner! I'm no longer seeking to persuade you to thieve anybody else's concept! If you rather are not able to arise with some thing for a tale, I advocate you start to learn better degree fiction novels. This might develop your creativeness, and surely your vocabulary. I propose older ones, essentially the most long-established. And attempt to restrict fairytales; recommendations constructed from the ones probably pop out corny. Those are rather the one pointers I can provide you; additional main points in your problems could have helped, however I desire I assisted moderately! Lol. Good good fortune, I real do have an understanding of how first establishing to jot down is complicated, and I want the great for you.

NOt everyone has had to bust their butt, like you and I, to make an hour's wage, that's why. Young people lack the compassion, respect and tact (even class) that the baby boomer and WWII generations carried.

The new gens defend their lack of respect and consideration with lame excuses or by bashing the other side. Why blame a waiter or waitress for taking a job in a restaurant? They realize that a 15-20% tip is standard and not the exception. They look for excuses to defend their lack of class and thier cheap disposition.

My advice for both parties:

For servers, haridressers, bartenders, etc. - don't count your tips after you collect them. It will only make you more bitter than you are for breaking your back when you serve in-grates.
Just count them at the end of the night and you can stay "up-tempo" for the rest of the shift.

For "thrifty" customers: If you are trying to save money, DON'T GO OUT TO EAT!!! Stay home or go to a fast food place to hang onto your little college budget. Don't bother service people with your pretentious air of sophistication that you are so intelligent and high-class. Your tips show your real gratification to the server. If you don't want to tip, stay home.

I have been on both sides of the table and now as a professional, I am very aware and appreciative of the efforts by a service person in any business. If I have a problem with the cost, I let the OWNER know...I never take it out on the poor server.

I don't know. It's always been like that and always will. Although I have found that it is not only the younger crowed, it can be anyone. My father in law never left a tip before he met me and realized what I made and that tips are the big part of our pay. But, then it seems that you'll have someone later come in and make up the difference somewhere along the line and leave a very nice tip. So, it all kinda evens out somewhat. I work in a factory now, and enjoy a regular paycheck. But, I miss the daily cash. Just keep being nice to everyone and do the best you can do. It makes your day go better if you can stay happy and busy. Plus it's not good to be all stressed out all day.

People may have different values as yourself. Not everyone believes in tipping. I am actually bothered by the fact that I do tip the norm 15-20% however feel like I shouldn't tip at all. I think a waitress/waiter should be doing their job regardless and should be plessant. If the restaurant wants to have quality service people then they should pay accordingly and have it reflected in their prices. I don't believe in Tipping as well because if I have to claim my income then so should the servers. Sure you many may claim however there are those that don't. know there are people in the world that don't think like you do. Perhaps what their scale of service they expected from you wasn't what you provided.

Tips are not required. I know that I get MUCH better service since I turned 35 than I ever did in my teens and 20s. I have always tipped, but if the server had a chip on her shoulder because I was "too young" or "just a kid" I left a crappy tip and a note that if she had treated my like her older customers she would have gotten a better tip.
You talk about younger customers as if they don't deserve to eat out. That tells me you treat them that way too.You mistreat your customer, you don't get a tip.

Now, if you are counting on tips to pay bills, you have a HUGE problem. Customers owe you nothing. You CHOSE to be a server, and should do your best regardless. If you can't afford to live on your salary, get another job. But STOP whining about people not tipping. You don't DESERVE a tip simply because you happen to be the one who brings the food. That is your job, a job you choose to keep.

Many don't have the money to tip they just have enough to eat. They know how to tip but can't do it. They don't realize how much you depend on tips. When I was first in college i did not work i just had money from my summer job that i rationed out during the year. I wanted to go out to eat and many times left no tip. I knew better. It was not untill i had friends that worked as waiter that i knew how little they get paid. I am sorry i know your job is hard and you don't get that much

Some don't have the extra money to tip. Don't take it personal. There will be other customers who will tip.

I don't ever tip because I don't have any extra money. I may tip a few $ though if I have some left over.

we just don't have that kind of money, at our age we usually have:
-student debts
-only a part-time job
-on min wage
-only just getting used to standing on our own two feet

and why should school teach us to give money to people who should have tried harder in school so that they're not waitresses, and are getting paid for it. at least you get a tip, you don't see nurses, or firemen or teachers getting tips and they are actually doing something for society.
