The names "John M ark occurs often in Acts and the epistles("John the Jewish name, "Mark the the Latin). His mother had a house in Jerusalem where the early church met(Acts 12:12). And he was cousin to Paul's companion,Barnabas. Mark Blotted his copy book with Paul by going home half-way through the first missionary tour. But Barnabas gave him a second chance, and he later won the love and respect of Paul and of Peter. He was a real comfort to Paul in prison(Colossians 4) And Peter, whose companion he became, loved him as his own son.(1 Peter 5:13) There is a strong early tradition that John Mark wrote in Rome, setting Jesus' story as he had heard it direct from the apostle Peter. This would certainly account for the extraordinary vividness. And Mark often explains Jewish customs, so he obviously had non-Jewish readers in mind.He tells the story roughly in the order things happened---moving swiftly through from Jesus baptism to the critical events of the cross and resurrection. Within this framework the material tends to be grouped by subject. Only four paragraphs in these 16 chapters are unique to Mark. All the rest appears again in either Matthew or Luke, or both. Yet to lose Mark would be to lose something beyond price. In Mark we see Jesus in action. And as we watch, the things he does convince us that he is the Son of God himself. This is the shortest of the Gospels, and probably the first to be written(ad 65-70 or even earlier).Mark is bustling with life: full of action. Matthew collects Jesus' sayings. Mark concentrates on the marvellous things Jesus did, and the places he went to.

(Mar 4:12) so that seeing they may see, and not perceive; and hearing they may hear, and not understand; lest at any time they should be converted, and their sins should be forgiven them.

He was a son of a woman named Mary who was rich and lived in Jerusalem. Also Barnabas's cousin and he participated in Paul's first missionary journey. John Mark and Paul got sideways, but later on they reconciled. Paul regarded him as one who was faithful to the end. The KJV Study Bible says "few have challenged this" that John Mark was Mark of the gospels.
