agree. hehehehe... it's a great trick. i once went to a party who served exttremely salty chicken. my mum took only one and never took another., it was so salty. that's what they did because there was plenty of people,, and that's a great way to prevent second servings. the all you can eat buffets probably realized this too, long ago.

I don't believe it.

If the food is really salty = too salty, no body will eat it, complain and not return.

My theory is that buffets usually have great looking salad bars to entice you to fill up on salad (just filler in my book, lol) so you don't gorge on the more expensive items.

Same with veggies, mac and cheese and potatoes.

A well run buffet knows that only a few really gorge out while most people are two-platers plus dessert which means they probably price the buffet so they will make money without having to "cheat" by oversalting.

It sounds like a good theory, I would tend to think that buffet food is really salty for a few other reasons, too:
1. Salt is a flavor enhancer so it makes the food tast better
2. Salt is a preservative, used to keep food from spoiling

I understand that bars serve pretzels, popcorn, and chips to make their patrons thirsty so they order more drinks.

I think it would be nuts for a restaurant to serve food in their buffet that was so salty people wouldn't eat much. Who'd ever go back a second time? Pretty soon, they wouldn't have any customers at all.

Most restaurants and buffets add MSG, a flavor enhancing agent to foods. It has been proven to increase appetite. It also can have neurological effects if you are sensitive to it.
