Alter calls are a means of seduction... attention, public congratulation... low-key mass hysteria, group manipulation. Did you actually doubt it for a moment?

Altar calls are pandering to public displays. They also work against anyone who is too shy to come forward. But I think the main reason I dislike them is they tend to make it very hard to change your mind later. All those people watching you, it's sort of like getting married.

They are meant to manifest a sense of the Spirit and publicly declare one's faith. Although I agree with the scripture on this one. I think God predetermines the outcome of the faith game anyways, most of those who go to church will probably not make it to heaven, even me.
