why do mosquitoes rarely if ever bite scalps? It's normally the rest of the body, face and neck, but scalps?

Most likely because there is hair in the way. Also, there is less blood-rich muscle and tissue on your scalp compared to other areas.

Not sure, maybe it has something to do with hair. It's easier access to bare skin.
