Hey everyone, This is a random discussion question so feel free to answer..

I am a FA for Delta and I was just reading some different comments about airlines and wanted to ask What makes you say one airline is better than the other?

I have flown on a few different airlines and they honestly do the same thing that other carriers do, as of ON the airplane. Most recent travel adventure i was on Continental, and they didnt do no more than i expected them to...Customer service was the same and beverage service was the same as any other airline.

We can't apply Weather delays and Rude Flight attendants to the question, because EVERY job has grumpy employees and bad days...the airline industry is just like every other job, the FA's are not perfect and we all have problems. I had to work after a relative of mine passed away...so YES I was a little grumpy...FA do have lives and problems outside of work, so for you people that think FA suppose to be perfect, think again.

Ur Opinion.

Lost Luggage and Mechanical delays can happen on ANY airline. So if passengers buy a ticket and think that everything will be perfect 100% of the time...they are setting themselves up for disappointments...No airline is perfect...and things will always happen...

Well When people talk about the airplanes, just about every airline have the same planes, so when people say no leg room, on the 737, then you can say that every other airline that flys the 737 has no leg room, right?

After 30 years at a major....domesically...I don't think it matters..the pax only care about the price of a ticket ...the service is pretty much the same.....but strangley...enough if they pay x dollars...at Jet Blue or SW...if the service is bad or the flight has a mechanical...they tolerate it....if it happens at a major carier....thier expectations are so much higher for the same price.. Internationally...espeially in Asia the locls like thier own...the Japanese would rather be catered to..on JAL or ANA...than NWA or UA...the primary carriers..Better question...who has the worst management???

I live in Asia and the difference between customer oriented airlines like Singapore, Thai Airways and Cathay Pacific are night and day compared to almost any US based carrier. Having enough check-in personnel to shorten check-in times is important, nobody wants to wait an hour to check-in, smooth handling of the boarding procedure is also something the Asian based carriers do well instead of the mad stampede to the plane that many American based airlines practice. You say that all airlines have rude and grumpy flight attendants, not on the better Asian airlines they don't, I guarantee you FA's on many of the Asian airlines won't keep their jobs long with the attitude many of the American FA's have. Even you make an excuse for having a bad day, it's not the passenger's fault you had an unfortunate death in the family, why should the passenger have to suffer as a result? The friendliness of the FA's are a huge part of what makes for a pleasant flight, you need to leave personal problems at home, after all, part of your job description is to take care of the passengers and to do it in a friendly manner. If you can't, then you shouldn't be a flight attendant.
Also, at a time when most American based airlines have cut back on eveything from meals to pillows, the Asian airlines still give amenity kits in economy class and everything from the drinks to the heaphones are still complimentary, and even on short flights they still serve meals and most of the time the food is good, too. They also have personal state of the art IFE, where many American airlines still have a tv hanging from the ceiling every 10 rows or so. What makes a good airline is everything they do from the moment you arrive at the check-in line until the time you pick up your luggage from the carousel, maybe most American based airlines should require their personnel to fly on Singapore Airlines or Cathay Pacific just to see how an airline should be run. I don't think it's a coincidence that Singapore and Cathay are very profitable airlines at a time when almost all American airlines are in one phase of bankruptcy or another, and I think the way you try and defend grumpy FA's and give them an excuse for their surly attitudes pretty much sums up the state of airline travel in the America.

If an airline employee goes out of his way to help me, I remember for years. As for bad service, there's a difference between being grumpy and taking it out on a passenger. I think a FA can be aloof, sullen or curt, but he cannot start shouting insults at passengers just because he had a bad day and needs a punching bag. When a FA is rude, I just shrug it off, when a FA is abusive, I do complain. So what makes an airline bad is when those bad apples are not disciplined by the supervisors.
Let's say you compare China Eastern and Singapore Airlines, you immediately see the difference. SQ has a service oriented culture, where the FA are trained to never lose composure. Whereas China Eastern has a more communistic I-don't-serve-you culture, which makes for a not so civilized cabin. And this company culture is not so much country specific, but totally depends on the corporate leadership.
For US domestic airlines, they are not very different. But it's like one ball team can be better than another even though their equipment and facilities are the same quality and the players are the same ones being traded all around. The difference is usually the coaching staff, which is leadership.

Service, not on time, poor customer service, not sure till boarding, if flight cancelled no proper arrangments for customers, these are the problems with a worst airlines, a best airline should have a good service, concern and care for the customers..

A friend at my old job flew Biman Air Bangladesh from Tokyo to Bangkok stopping in Dhaka, Bangladesh (to save $100 versus taking a real airline), fluid leaked on his head during the flight, and the plane broke down in Dhaka so he was stuck there for three days before finally getting to go on to Bangkok.

I fly a lot and ive flown many different airlines

THE WORST IS AIRTRAN!!!!, there is absolutley no leg room, the plane is small, the service is terrible. The only thing good is the XM Satelite Radio

Well one of my fav's is Delta, to me they have great service, extra leg room, there are usually three aisles on the plane, makin the plane feel more comfortable.

I have never lost any luggage, so i cant complain.
