Suppose there is a man,Mr.Steward, an educated person from an international company. he came to Lewis family, where Mrs.Lewis, NORMA opened the door. Mr.Steward introduced himself and gave an offer of $50,000. he gave a box to Norma & said if u push the button,"somewhere in the world someone you don't know will die. In return you will receive a payment of $50,000". Norma doesn't believe for one second that it could be her own husband.Another feature of Norma is that she only think about herself, others life is of no importance to her.

Death is described in the Bible as an enemy. It is a tragedy when anything dies because it is completely foreign to God's perfect universe.

However, God, in His infinite wisdom, has determined that when sin entered into His domain, we have all died. Thus death came to all men through one man's transgression.

But take note, 1 Corinthians 15 calls Jesus the "last Adam." And through one Man (our Creator's) righteousness, EVERYONE will live again.

You see, Jesus said there are two resurrections, one of the righteous and one of damnation.

So, as tragic as death is, the real tragedy is that the great majority have neglected so great a salvation and will be destroyed in the resurrection of damnation.

Shalom, peace in Jesus, Ben Yeshua

Anyone who would push the button is deficient in some basic human instincts. Humans, being social animals, have a natural inclination not to visit harm upon others - even if they don't know them at all.

The strength of this inclination varies according to how (genetically) close the victim is, but some compassion will exists in a normal person even when the victim is an unknown stranger.

An exception, of course, would be a victim who is already designated and enemy, of one of 'them' - whoever that might be. If the stranger was known to be, say, a Al Quaida member, some people would have little difficulty pushing the button.

But in general, someone who would do this for $50K, unless they themselves are starving etc, is short on morals.

Kind of interesting, in that it assumes that everyone fears death. I know a lot of people do, and while I am not anxious to leave this life, I don't fear death when it comes (there ARE worse things than dying, trust me). I'm not commenting on Norma's theoretical action, whatever her response would be; just commenting on the fact that this scenario depends on believing that death is inherently a bad thing... if that makes sense. It's just part of life, I think.

There was a study done where people had to push a button that would give a shock to another person in a different room...the results were that people were so conditioned to doing what someone else says that they did actually do it. (of course there was no other person)
I'll google for the details, it was an interesting study.

Oops, yes, there was another person, they just were not receiving real shocks...it's been awhile since I read this.

There are people truly have no empathy for others. They seem able to see and feel no further that there own wants needs and desires -
They cannot perceive , understand or sympathize with the pain and suffering around them.
The universe truly ends at the tip of there nose.
I don't believe that this is purely attitude I believe it is an actual disorder.
I am no expert on the subject but ,I have lived long enough to witness it .

Q: Do u agree with Norma's assertion that the [causing] death of someone you have never seen is not important?

A: You appear to have left an important word out of the question. It's that word that makes it an issue.

As the question was actually written:

Q: Do u agree with Norma's assertion that the death of someone you have never seen is not important? [implied 'to me or anything in my life']

A: Yes I'd agree.

No. all life is important. It would be evil for a person to do that. you may not know that person that person, but someone else does. Your effecting someone elses life. How different would a person feel if the scenario was reversed?

interesting

knowing human greed and weakness; and our inherent ability to justify everything we do no matter how heinous....

I think most of us would push the button and say "oh well, I'm probably saving someone from an abusive situation or they were probably terminally ill anyway."
