Ok, so I gathered from the above answers that you get the meaning now, Sexual relations between persons who are so closely related that their marriage is illegal or forbidden by custom.
In English it comes from Latin incestum, from neuter of incestus, impure, unchaste : in-, not + castus - pure, chaste
The idea of Chaste, comes from an idea that a person is morally pure in thought or conduct; decent and modest.
its derived from the ancient word kes - to cut off from or free of faults. we get castrate from this source as well!
It boils down to reproduction, having rules that benefited a small tribal population unable to read or write - It can be accepted as a given that incestual reproduction is a bad idea.
But since the holy books ban all sex out of marriage, then they do not address the question of nonreproductive incestual relationships? There are no moral reasons against non-reproductive incest amongst consenting adults?
For the record, like most of you I am sure, I have personally an extreme aversion to the idea of having incest.
However, I also believe that the possibility of increased genetic defects in children resulting from incest is not as great as generally thought. If incest were very common (and I believe it is somewhat more common than you might think) or if people have the gene for a severe genetic disorder, some caution would be necessary. However, if both partners are in reasonably good genetic health, I think that their child would be healthy also. (If I were the devils advocate here, I could even make a case that incestuous reproduction should be encouraged in people with very good genetic health.)
Aside from the genetic defect aspect, there's a very real potential for child abuse. This happens now, when incest is considered unthinkable. Some of the more remote religious communities, and the ones with multiple marriages, no names - no pact drills - are rife with incest!

Incest is when relatives have sexual relations together, God gave Moses the laws regarding incest, up until then there was no law against it, because Adam and Eve were created perfect and there was little danger of inherited 'bad genes' or whatever

Taking the literal definition, incest is illegal not immoral, although the Bible probably declares it immoral at some point.
