I'm going Active Army for 4 years and I took an intelligence position that is entry level. It's important for me to get into intelligence and it's the only position (I have interest in) available anytime within the next year. I would like to know people's experience switching jobs as I'm most interested in an agent position. Maybe I could at the end of my 4 years or maybe just before? Any input is helpful! Thank you!

Did you happen to notice any spare fish hooks lying around on your recruiter's desk?

g-day!

Make sure that it's in the paperwork before you do any reenlistment. The army is hurting people and a lot of the career counselors who are in charge of reenlistment's are lieing to people left and right to keep people in.
You'll have to talk to one of them unfortunately and they have to get a list of all of the MOS's in that field that are available and then you can choose. A lot of times what you want wont be available the first few times, so you'll have to keep checking in. It all depends on how far you're Battalion career counselor is willing to go for you. In order to get you a seat in the AIT as a reclass they have to contact the branch manager of that MOS. You can't really do anything but hope that they care and very few of them actually do. If you're overseas it can be even harder because it involves someone staying up late at night just to get a hold of anyone in the states during work hours.
Just becareful before you sign anything.

There are no intelligence agent positions in the Army.

Stop watching James Bond movies.

There are intelligence analyst MOS,

Which means you will read intelligence, you may even debrief people.

But there are no jobs of agents, who sneak around finding stuff out.

Not in the Army.

the military doesn't have Agents, per se. and any position remotely close to resembling such a thing are senior level positions(only open to E6 and above).

Most Criminal Investigation Agents are Civilians.

in general, to change jobs the position your are seeking must be classified as a shortage MOS and the position your in must be listed as an overage MOS.
Good luck
