I understand your point, but ya know as a people, we tend to forget very easily -
there is a book about the Dachou Concentration Camp that you can only buy if you visit that camp on a tour. The last page in the book reads "those who forget are likely to repeat".
Your question made me remember how horrible WWII was, and yet if you want to buy any land in Hawaii, chances are you would be buying it from a Japanese guy -
we forget so easily with time.
I think this is why they do the tragedy anniversaries - people need to be reminded
or they will forget so quickly and so easily.
