I know a 16 year old that still does the same thing. She's a girl in my class, even worse... she's popular and she does it in public.
I guess it's just one of those things that you have to let them grow out of on their own.

Well I sucked my thumb till I was about 10--I turned out normal. I stopped when I realized it wasn't cool (yes it took awhile but I did do it on my own). You could also threaten that it will make her need to wear braces, but that may not be true and I really think it's better to just let her stop when she's ready to.

It's not uncommon for her age or even older. It becomes such a habit she is probably doing it even when she doesn't realize it. maybe when she is tired or maybe even stressed.
I would try that nasty stuff you paint on your nails. Its called mavala stop. Its about $10 online and it does not wash off for a few days. It is sooo gross! It worked on my nephew in less than a wk but he cried at night! =( He was only 4 though, but she may have trouble going to sleep if she falls asleep sucking her thumb. maybe put on some relaxing music.

Out of our four children, one was a thumb-sucker.
The only thing that seemed to stop him at around the age of ten was when the orthodontist said "I can see that you suck you thumb, so you'll need braces if you don't stop right now"
It worked.
Try that. But I can't think of anything else at the moment.

Talk to her and ask y do u think she is sucking her thmb. Heck, she mite actually feel sad as if she is blaming it on her parents cos u didnt try to stop her! No offense. Thumbsucking is like a comfort for her. Try putting perfume, chilli, vinegar and nail polish orstick it down the mud or try all of it! Don't give up on it because this will have a huge part in her life!

She will probably grow out of it, so don't worry to much. If you are really worried, buy her a hand cream to use throughout the day. They taste foul and will quickly break the habit.
