Is the key useless? Are all keys differently made,or is it just the inside nits that are different? I am really stuck here of knowing what to do next, any advice?

Calm down call a lock smith they are reasonable. And cheaper than the quarter light (window) your about to break out. Locks are only to keep honest people out of cars. Actually the tumblers and inside parts to the locks will stay the same the lock smith will use a unlock tool then proceed to make you another master key. Some lock smiths even are computerized so they can also reprogram immobilizer keys. You did not indicate what year your Renault Laguna was so you. And trust me if you pay for a tow truck and haul the car to the dealer they will use the manufactures Key Code and have you a running again for about $200 US Do not stop at one key always have two master keys and one Valet key that won't open the glove box and trunk. Remote key less entry will cost you money for new transmitters and reprogramming

there should be a locksmith in your area. Possibly the police? some cab companies. All of these require you to show proof of ownership
