You have been getting good answers.Just I want to tell U what I do. I have ASO (advanced system optimiser) & avast (home edition).I don't keep any impartent
thing in drive C & keep formating & reinstalling every month. I will have a copy
of my OS in some other drive & reinstall
using OS installer (I know a little DOS &
I use that knoweledge).I am not an expert but

Try Start > All Programs > Accessories > System Tools > System Restore to roll back your PC to the day before the problems happened.

Use ccleaner from filehippo.com/ccleaner.
