If you're adressing more than one atheist, DON'T SAY THINGS LIKE "Atheist, why don't you beleive in god?". I'm tired of people saying "Atheist" in their question when "Atheists" is the proper word. I don't go around asking "Christian, why do you beleive in god?" because it's common ******* sense to pluralize "Christian" if I'm asking more than one person. I mean, how hard is it to add an exra "S" to the damn word? I hate it more than I hate when people spell you as "u". And don't tell me "Calm down, It's not their fault" because it is. Jesus Christ, learn some english. RRRGHH.

slo18: You have good grammar. I was directing this question at the people who don't pluralize atheist when neccesary.

Oh dear, that last question really did get up your nose, didn't it?

I think you're overlooking the fact that most people actually can't spell and have no idea how to correctly phrase even the most common cliches. One of my favourites, seen here on Y/A, is ''live and let lived''. Clearly, most people don't even ask if what they are writing actually makes sense. They just spew out words, phrases and sentences regardless of how incorrect they are.

The other part of the problem is linguistic laziness. Generally, pronunciation is poor and people then hear a word, or phrase, said and if they hear ''atheist'' used frequently enough as a plural in conversation, they assume that's its linguistic function. You should know people never use dictionaries to find anything out!

Compulsory education simply means even the idiots have some level of literacy now. Otherwise, there's no difference from how literate people were 200 years ago.

Ironically, the ones who usually don't care are already basically illiterate. :)

But don't overlook the fact that some people on Y/A are using English as their second, even third language. They, at least, have some excuse, wouldn't you agree?

Every language alterations through the years. Perhaps , what I'm writing now would look like degenerate English as in comparison to the Queen's English in 1900's or American in 1850's. Further, each those could sound like punk English if we return to the Shakespearean interval. One have to be open-minded on this. You might cherish the English you talk, however what individuals talk now is going - blame it at the deficient specifications of schooling in case you like .

I butcher it because I don't usually care enough to run spell check. I do how ever feel that for the most part I don't mutilate it to badly. Personally I don't mind the lack of plurals, it is the use of phone text type patterns and the use of Ebonics that irritates me.

I totally agree with you,and I would also like to add that I am tired of being called an athiest in general, when I believe in god in a spiritual context. love and light

It's when it's spelled athiest, or athesist, or any other way that annoys me...I understand typo's, but I truly think that often people simply can't spell to save their life.

Second language learners, on the other hand, don't bother me much. I know my spanish writing is much worse than my speaking. :)
