I use a product called Green ums with my dogs. They are little tablets made from good, natural ingredients which you add to their food each day. Trust me, they work, no matter how the dog pees. I have four poodles and a green lawn.

Some male dogs never lift their legs if they have only a flat yard to pee in, no trees, bushes etc... If they were neutered young that can also be why he squats like the females. Although, my female minpin partially hikes up her leg like one of the guys to pee on trees and bushes... go figure.
As for the grass, if it's that big a deal you can buy some stuff from Petsmart or PetCo called "Grass Saver" by NaturVet. It comes in many forms and is supposed to cut down on the acids killing the grass.

He's still a pup really so i wouldn't worry about the way he pees. He'll learn eventually.
As for it killing the grass, all dogs urine will do that, it just means repairing your lawn with a patch pack of grass seed.

Pee comes with the package when you have a dog. Don't worry about your lawn- I'm sure the companionship you get from your dog is greater than that which is offered from your lawn.
I'm not sure if this is what you were getting at, but many male does squat when they pee. I've noticed that it is getting increasingly more common for males to do this. I've seen both altered males and unaltered males do this. I'm a professional pet sitter and also work at a doggy daycare so I see my share of dogs.

Whether castrated or not, some dogs never lift their legs. The only things you can do are:
1. Train your dog to go in particular spot or
2. Follow him round with a bucket of water to dilute the urine & prevent it from burning the grass.
Uncastrated dogs do NOT spray randomly all over the place, they are just as easy to train as a castrated one. Trouble is they kill the plants not the grass!!

Is he castrated? He should be by this age. Uncastrated males tend to spray randomly all over the place. Castrated males can be taught to pee only in certain places, i.e only killing one area of your grass, or not peeing on your grass at all!
If he is castrated, he just needs proper training. Or a vet check if you're worried there might be a medical reason for excess peeing.

Dogs dont lift their leg sometimes until up to 2 years od age, is due to an increase in testosterone and the desire to spread their scent further, cocking the leg allows them to urinate higher up therefore increasing the range the scent can carry. Some male dogs never learn to lift their legs espescially if they are naturally of a submissive nature. I have a male Bullmastiff, big dog for his breed yet he still squats. As for your grass just water it well to dilute the urine and feed with Nitrogen it will soon recover.

As long as he pees on the grass period, it can die. You can hose it off with water after he goes to the bathroom to wash away the urine.
Even neutered dogs can lift their leg to pee. Maybe not all the time though. Mine is neutered, and he lifts his leg maybe 25% of the time.

I was worried my dog never lifted his leg, so i tried to show him by lifting my leg around the garden. Needless to say it never worked, did have a good laugh trying. In the end i gave up and just left him to pee however he wants.
I was told to bury a bit of another dogs pooh where you want your dog to 'go', never tried it though, dug up my grass instead.

I have exactly the same problem hun. My dog is a year soon and he still squats. My garden is a mixture of bare, hard soil and yellow patches.I've tried all sorts, ketchup in his food, greenum tablets in his food, pouring water where he pees, nothing works! I've given up trying now.
