No this is perfectly normal and why wouldn't you want to masturbate when you can't have the real thing from him. It's better to hear his oohhh and ahhhh over the phone, than to get voicemail cause he's on the other line masturbating or found a real piece of candy, and I am not talking about the stuck in between the sofa, either. Tell him you want to do this all the time.
