Well mom, it isn't bribes. It's rewards! A reward is something that you can ALLOW that is reasonable for each age that you can afford.
Square one thing right now, YOU are mom! Set them down and lay down some rules. [for each age...something reasonable.]
Each family member can do something of their own share daily! [ouch! been there done that, yeah, it's hard! My youngest of 3 is 26 and all are on their own! LOL! ]
Your 'lazy day' can be making sure that they ARE doing something and have them report what they did, while you rest or do yours. [please allow them laziness too, once in a while. :-) ]
Once they understand that by doing a little bit EVERYDAY, it makes it easier instead of having it all at once to do! You sound like you are a single mom? MY BEST TO YOU! It's tough, but it can work. Allow a couple of weeks to see some improvements, after your rules are set.

The 18 year old should be helping you anyway, the 14 year old should be doing chores to earn her pocket money and the 7 year old should of been taught to tidy up after him/herself at a younger age.

I don't bribe my kids....I just tell them what to do. And they do it.
You should have started a chore routine some time ago.
Use a timer...tell your kids they have 30 mins to clean and then they get a break, take a break and repeat until house is clean....you will be surprised at how much will get done in 30 min.

A rising payscale worked wonders for me. The more work that got done then the more money that the would make...if THEY wanted to be lazy then they do not get paid. It instills responsiblity in them and gives they drive and purpose.
I gave them a list of what needed to be done weekly with a price on each task and they decided what they each wanted to do...BUT if the entire list did not get done within the week then NO ONE was paid for any tasks...Team work building.
Good Luck

Kids should have their own small amount of chores to do without bribes. You could tell them that they have to earn their allowances. Even the youngest can do small jobs. My 16 and 7 year old have to pull their weight.

my mum did this wiv me and my sis and it worked.i' ve jus started it this week wiv my 13, 9 and pretending wiv 3
yr old. write list of chores and amount then add up what theyve done during the week and say payday can be saturday.[hoovering 25p p/room, 50p make bed etc]
my 9 is right now in bedroom wiv strop cos she got 1.50 and sis made 3.75.
suppose this might not work for 18 yr old , my niece has to do chores to get credit for her mobile.
last resort tell them if they dont help nicely then their grounded for life, jus imagine being wiv mum 24/7
good luck.xx

Hi, I can sympathise with you as i have 3 kids aged 18,14,and 10. I get them to do jobs by bribing them as well. My 14 year girl is not allowed on msn unless jobs done. My 10 year old boy can have sky remote and my 18 year old girl is not allowed to use my mobile to ring her boyfriend (got free mins on mine!!) unless she does jobs. It all works quite well as they can't seem to live without the perks!!
Good Luck!!
