It's not only the colour that defines the price. Usually, you will find red salmon as the most expensive but it depends on the source. You have cultivated salmon and wild salmon. Regardless of whether it is red or pink, all wild salmon is more expensive than cultivated. Next you have fresh water salmon and Atlantic salmon. Fresh water (wild) salmon is more expensive than Atlantic. There are also price fluctuations throughout the year as stock levels increase and decrease. As slamon head towards their spawning grounds, the shoals are large and can easily be caught by trawlers. That is when you will find the cheapest price for Atlantic salmon. Once the shoals have entered the rivers, Atlantic salmon becomes expensive. The fishing seasons for salmon is limited and therefore it depends on what time in the season as the catches can be large, thus reducing the price, early on in the season but quite small, thus increasing the price, later in the season. As for cultivated salmon, the price tends to remain stabilised as they can constantly spawn and produce to demand. To end your argument, neither is more expensive nor cheaper when comparing the fluctuating price of wild salmon but red salmon is normally more expensive for the cultivated one. Also note that tinned salmon prices can vary. If you check the tins, you can see the source (country) of that salmon and some countries are cheaper. However, rather than pass the saving on to you, the big brands usually promote the cheaper salmon in a promotion thus conning you into believing it's a bargain.
