When you put it like that, I don't think Jesus would be very popular in the USA at all.

I agree with all of that, except for the interpretation of the passage in Matthew. That's talking about on an INDIVIDUAL basis, not as a country.

No, the Republicans wouldn't vote for Jesus...but neither would the Democrats.

The Republicans in general might have a problem with all of the above mentioned teachings of Christ, but Democrats seem to have a problem with "Go and sin no more."

Edit: I'll amend what I said, and say instead MANY Democrats. One of my closest friends is a Democrat and a Christian, and one of my uncles is also a Democrat.

I am neither Democrat nor Republican.

I bet Jesus would be a Libertarian.

I don't know what you're talking about, The_Cricket, because I'm atheist AND a Democrat and I would vote for him in an instant.

He WAS quite a hippie.

He'd probably show up and say "uh, hey, I don't like all of this fighting and killing... and I really don't like all this greed and hate... oh, and I'm pro-same sex marriage, I support Universal Health Care and... uh... I wish these priests would stop molesting boys".
