i have been told sneezing with your eyes/nose/mouth closed can kill you 9SOUNDS A BIT FAR FETCHED TO ME), but it is also supposed to be impossible....
I think i did it the other day, i was in bed so eyes still closed, i held my nose and some how i managed to keep my mouth closed.....for a good 5 minutes after i sneezed i had the most excrutiating pain imaginable, i would compare it to a migraine and i felt like my head was going to explode....when the pain went, it completely went, not slowly just went (get me)
can someone tell me what happened there? or what exactly is sneezing and its purpose
thanks

Many people sneeze with their eyes closed, and I have never seen sneezing with eyes closed as cause of death on an autopsy. So that is bollocks.

However, sneezing, being your body's mechanism for clearing the upper airway, is a normal function, by keeping your mouth and nose closed you caused the expulsion of air to expand in your upper airway which put pressure in your sinus cavities causing the headache. You are never supposed to hold the nose closed during a sneeze, as the purpose of the sneeze is to express foreign material/irritants from the upper airway. If the nose is held closed the air then is expelled through the oral cavity. Additionally, if both the nose and mouth are held closed some pressure is force into both the lachrymal ducts and the Eustachian tubes affecting the eyes and ears.

If you sneeze with your mouth closed, eyes closed, and nose closed all at once you can't die from the actual sneezing. If you sneeze with your eyes open your eyes MAY, may not will, come out of their socket.

The problem with sneezing with your mouth, and nose closed at once if that after a person sneezes they often times take a big breath to allow their lungs to fill back into air. With both your mouth and nose closed, your lungs aren't able to fill back up. but seeing as you are not trying to hurt yourself, your body will force you to open one of the areas so that they can get air to the lungs.

So no sneezing can't kill you if you sneeze with eyes, nose, and mouth closed. And the pain mostly came from lack of oxygen to the brain because of your body couldn't take that breath back in right away.

Yep, I was driving around in my car and had a mouth full of 4 or 5 Tic Tac breath mints. I sneezed and blew the mints into the windshield...it sounded like machine gun fire!

You probably popped a blood vessel in your head. That's not good. Don't do that again, over time it can lead to severe problems.
