I enjoy watching shows like future weapons, life on a sub, anatomy of an f-22, etc..., but I wonder if they are giving too much information about the military's capabilities. i have an AF buddy that says most of the tech that is shown is about 5 years behind what's being developed now. is this true? or are these programs a little too revealing?

I don't think they are TOO revealing...

They havee been screened for content so the military is aware of what is being shown, you can bet on that.

I think they are great myself... watching these shows scares the hell out of me and I'm not the one going to attack the US military.

g-day!

Each program has to go through piles of red tape prior to even being allowed on a military installation.
Once on, they are privy to see things, but the military certainly censors what is too be shown and what not.
And 5 years, maybe even more.

The military regulates what goes on that channel, so if they think its safe to show, it must be safe to show. I don't know about the five years thing, because sometimes they talk about something in development, like the armored hummers. They decide if it could be used to harm the US and if tehy think it might, then they dont let it be aired. I'm sure there are really advanced things in development that they dont want to be public..and when they want to go public they will. All of what they show is available to other countries somewhere else...

Not really. For instace when the F-117 was made, they allowed a Soviet general to sit in the cockpit. The Soviets knew about the F-117 before the U.S. public and they didn't need a spy to get that information.

Some stuff is just too expensive for the enemy. Even if China could build a F-22, they couldn't afford to do it.

yea the airforce has classified things that are many years ahead of what is being showed. If anyone is wanting to know our military capabilities they dont need to watch tv, they could go right to the manufacturers website and see what it is, or they just google what they wanted to know and find a lot more detailed information.

The military channel isn't showing anything classified and nothing revealing.

If you want the latest development information from the US military, you can probably buy it from Chinese agents in Shanghai for the right price.

There is nothing on that channel that the military does not authorize to go there.
