My children got home from school an hour ago and I let them take a snack break then work on homework until they are done. Sometimes I feel like I am being too hard but at the same time, both of them have big ambitions for college and careers and if they don't study and get the grades then they won't have a chance. They can play when they are done with their study. They've got the weekends to play and after homework at night. Get them used to real life!

I make my kids (8 and 9 yrs old) sit for not more than two hours in a day, which include all the sharing about school, fighting with each other, short stories to bring back their attention to studies. The rest of the time I let them do what they want with at least an hour play outdoors.
Children need to play a lot with their age group and sometimes with other age kids too.

Yes, my children study enough. Since I supervise their education, I can ensure this. I make sure they have time for other things also.
However, I think that often children are pushed too hard academically-when young children spend 7+ hours at school five days a week, and come home with a couple of hours (often more) of homework...it leaves very little time for them to spend with family, just play, or REST. I think it is too much on children, and they need to have more 'down time'.

They need a healthy balance. After school, about an hour of study time while the subjects are still fresh in their minds. During that time a healthy snack, fruit and juice, cheese and biscuits, that type of thing. Then out for a couple of hours of fresh air, exercise and sunshine.

Play more. They work hard all day at school then have to come home to more work. Kids work harder than there parents these days. How many adults have to come home from work and work another hour or more? Kids need time to play and exercise. It is ridiculous giving them more than 10 min of revision. School is for learning home is for revision. No more than 10 min. Where is the time with the family?

A balance is important so keeping the mind and the body active can help the child to develop their full potential.

A good way is to make studies fun and entertaining, and you'll have both without sacrificing to learning.
